135 tachometer - keeping original hours

There’s a 135 in the workshop for a few jobs at the moment, and one task is to fit a new tachometer as the original recently stopped working.

Tractor is showing its original hrs, so I would like the new one to carry on from where the old one is now. Tractor is totally original, locally owned from new early 135 with red wheel centres and round mudguards so would be a shame to loose the original 5500 run hours

I cant see how they can be set, unless anyone can suggest a method? Or could I send a new one somewhere to be set? Or buy a preset one?

The original has a cracked glass and associated water ingress, can they be repaired by anyone?

They are mechanical, so electric drill?

Drill would have to run continuously for 230 days, where do you buy a drill like that ?

I did 1 myself, bought a new one, take it to bits and release the lock and click it over till you have the same hours, and as it was a multi power fitted a new dial as you cannot get them now

its possibly beyond repair, seized solid, but I’ll get it sent to one of the above next week for a professional opinion. Looks like they would be able to sort a replacement clock showing correct hrs if that turns out to be the case

If you spin it the other way it will be quicker.

Was it difficult or relatively straightforward?

Fiddly more that anything, and getting the bezel off the front and back on was the hard bit

I was just looking at it now, getting the bezel off and back on with out it looking botched is my worry. I don’t have the skills, knowledge or tools to do a professional job on that myself.

Learnt on the P3 that somethings are best left to the professionals, so ill go down that route first.

Well, I had to look into this one, didn't I? My tractor has a replacement odometer but I never bothered to re-adjust the hours. It's nearly 30 years old and not for sale so I don't suppose it matters much anyway.

I've had lots restored gets pricey but you really can't beat the original stuff
The foreign rubbish is utter junk

Had one price back to restore, wasn’t too bad, but up to 20 week turnaround .

Going to get some more quotes later this week.
