18 m or 24m sprayer

Currently we are using a 12m hardi sprayer. We spray about 400 acres a year. The sprayer currently fits on out case 4230 nicely of which we have row crops for. Went to see a hardi 18m mounted yesterday and well it would be a tad on the big side for her. But it would fit on our 6115r deere, but are we better going up to 24m which would fit on the 6115r and this would give us more out put? Or even find a 24m trailed for the 4230?

I would go 24m trailed, will cost little if anything more and tread lighter than a mounted 18 with the extra axle under it

much easier to hitch on / off as well IMO

24m is a nice size really works with most contactors if you needs to and fert spreader and drill widths etc. It's kind of become the UK default size

Going to 24m trailed is the best way in my opinion, it gives you the option of using either tractor and being the most popular width, it fits in with most contractors/neighbours machines so if you do get a breakdown or problem a 24m machine is easier to borrow or is useful if someone else needs a helping hand !

Go for the 24 metre or maybe 28 if youre using 4 metre drill. Good luck with your choice

24 mtr without doubt as for trailed or mounted depends on what size and layout of your fields, if lots of small fields with awkward corners then mounted would be better IMO some say trailed quicker to put on but they all have the same number of pipes and cables so its only a couple of hitches difference cant see a huge time difference compared to the extra maneuverability

24m trailed is indeed the best way to do it if you can afford the jump.
That's the main problem current sprayer only cost £1800 5 years ago, trailed 24m with tracking £15000? Trailed is probably the best way to go for us as can use it on all of our tractors if needs be.

When you consider that that one machine is responsible for your yield and the cost of the chems you put through it and the cost of getting it wrong buy the best you can. My old agronomist used to say if you have one machine on an arable farm, make it a sprayer

Are you looking at new?
My old trailed berthoud, with tracking drawbar only made £4k as a trade in. It was in perfect order and very accurate. But most importantly it was deadly accurate with its application rate.

Might be able to find one, then why didn't you put it on classifieds ?

Do you mean 400ac once or 400ac multiple times? We went from 1000l mounted to 2000l trailed and 18 to 21. Output has doubled and it's a much easier life for an 80hp tractor. If you're only covering 400ac in total just get a contractor in.
