I heard that on the radio yesterday. I did wonder if they'd been 'freed' by some activist group, not that anyone will be likely to own up to it now.

Any commercial hatchery would have the facilities to dispose of them humanely, even if orders had fallen through for whatever reason.

My first thought when I read it.

Also strange that none of the press reports I've seen mention AI? Could be a 'can't cope' issue but can't believe any producer with integrity would stoop to that.

How many in a crate when delivering, could they have fallen off a load? Mind, no mention of crates in the various articles, but that could be selective reporting.

Not sure what chicks are transported in, but the stillages used for larger birds are a bloody nightmare. Drive over a something the size of a pea with a Moffet, and the draws fall out. Hens running around everywhere.

Looks to me like they were cockerels, and then someone changed their minds, I dare bet that females will cost £1 each these days , so that's a fair bit to lose if they are.

I'm assuming they are a egg laying breed and not for meat.

Someone bought a load for feeding to raptors or reptiles but didn't expect them to be alive?

Or an opportunist thief stole more than he bargained for off the back of a lorry?
