1920 Austin Model R Tractor

In the Agricultural Museum of Iceland there is an Austin 1920 Model R tractor (see attached photo) that was bought by the Agricultural Society of Iceland in 1920. This is the oldest surviving tractor in this country.

It is not in a working condition and there is a group of veteran tractor enthusiasts (myself included) that are starting to look into the possibility of fixing that. The engine bearings are broken and have to be replaced. The governor, pressure gauge and magneto switch are missing. Otherwise the engine and tractor are in a fairly good state.

I am new to this forum and the purpose of my message is to inquire whether any of the members can advise on how we might go about finding spare parts for this machine. I would greatly appreciate your response.

A quick internet search, comes up with is one in a museam , in New Zealand. I am sure, if your museam contacts them, they would probably look for manufacturers , names or part numbers, to assist in identifying the correct parts required, to make searching online easier.

Perhap,as it was made by Austin, it used same parts on cars? Maybe easier to find, there will be Austin car owner clubs and forums.

Google reckons the engine was Austin heavy 20, so try connecting with vintage Austin clubs, also saw this

The Austin tractor in Iceland as the Austin 20/4 engine fitted, some parts for the engine are supplied by the Vintage Austin Register in the UK, Go the their website for spares information. I had contact with the museum some years ago and gave them the Austin radiator badge that you can see fitted to the tractor. Mike Eggenton VAR
