Why don't the government lead by example? Defra, police, fire services, ambulances.

They have plenty of time to recharge.

It's nothing about being green it's a tax dodge for the affluent

Gloucestershire police already have…

Someone like @Clive needs to step up and help the police plan for where the crimes are being committed.
With technology these days its so easy to plan a route around these things.

DPD keep telling me my package is being delivered by Boris in a EV, he must have swapped with Carlos in his unmarked diesel transit whos back doors are blacker than an undertakers suit

That is ok, as we now vote in people in each county to commission crimes*, so we will know when they are booked for.

*Otherwise known as a Police and Crime Commissoner. Real joined up thinking - commission the criminals, then the police so they both turn up at the same time.

What was the route/ journey? I know loads of EV owners and none of them report anything like that. He either picked a very unusual route or he is clueless about how these things work.

Polestar 1 or 2 ? That's what @Chris F has, I believe.

I have a Polestar 2 - In winter range drops to around 230 miles. That is driving sensibly on motorways. So a 300 mile drive you would need to charge. But only for about 20 minutes at a services. I tend to use Ionity or Instavolt to charge at. They run at 150 kw/h, so in 20 minutes you will get 50Kw max in the car. But more likely 40kwh. But that is 50% extra on the battery. So plenty to get another 115 miles. Giving 345 miles.

20 minutes is a coffee and a pee. So fits nicly after 2.5 hours of driving.

That said, I only charge out on the network maybe 5 times a year. It's quite rare, but you have to do it more in winter.

Looking for something with a bit of ground clearance and 4WD. Not sure the Kia (EV6?) meets those.

This, plus I want a car not a pickup.

And aren’t we supposed to be avoiding Chinese production?
I'm waiting to see the cost of electric propulsion retrofitting fall. I'd happily have our 2004 Hilux converted then. It has 20 years life left in it and is WAY too good to scrap (only got 57k miles on it and had it from new).

Ideally, a conversion that allows V2H so it could also double as a big suppliment to our home battery storage system.

Time will tell.

In the meantime I'll just keep running it on diesel.

Just about everything has a significant proportion of Chinese components. If you want to stick to British, a wheelbarrow would be your lot. Hold on though, they all seem to come from Hammerlin in France these days.
Significant number of components is one thing, Chinese manufacturer is another. Chinese factory would be a step too far for me. But yes, I drive a (Belgian) Volvo and would have an Aston Martin in an instant.

Ive a friend with the new kia... She went from a BMW i thingy. She says that while the Kia is better on range its just a bit naff and boring and dull. Now she isnt into cars and buys them for transport and nothing else. So i'd test drive first.
