Our vet is warning against regular preventative doses of Cydectin etc against scab. He reckons there's a lot of worm resistance to Moxydectin because of this and he said that it isn't impossible for the scab mites to become resistant too.

Out of interest, if you out door lambers go out and find a ewe with dead lamb (s)
Do you catch catch her and adopt something on?
Or sell her as a cull in place of the dead lambs when the mobs are rounded up for the first time?

I do the latter with my wilts which i lamb outside, mainly because they are sods to adopt anything on to- tend to try to kill any lambs put near them.
Also I'm breeding the wilts out so look for any reason to cull.

Also interested to hear our kiwi friends views @$Sheep @JD-Kid @Global ovine

Breed out problems, so my answer is no you have to cull! Setting on to outdoor lambers is just prolonging the agony. Better to spend your time to save a life, you have to prioritise your time, master this then look forward to a better future.
A neighbour of mine went down the no care approach to his intensive system after his father died, year one looking over the fence was a disaster year two not much better year three gimmers coming into flock getting better by year 10 he unknowingly has a very usefull what I would call totally no care flock through pure survival selection, lambs all over the place with very little death now. Amazing how not giving a damn can actually work in your favour, I would have looked for a rope on year one :/
