2.8 Hilux gearbox choice?

Auto or manual...

I am told by salesman its a 5 speed Auto which seems a bit backwards. Has anyone actual experience of this box towing. Or if indeed it is a 5 speed as no word on the brochure

Had auto in last 5 vehicles I’ve had and would not ever go back to manual.i tow a lot with my hilux with no issues

Auto... 2021 you shouldn't be changing gear yourself. Far better to tow with as well I feel.

My grounds work contractor has a new auto 6 speed hilux, after a manual. He said for general driving around it’s fine, but towing he thinks it lacks ratios and won’t change up to sixth cog readily.

Pretty sure they downrate the engine for the manual gearbox aswell

Lindop toyota used to do a chip to improve the gear changes on the auto for towing. I have a 2013 invincible 3.0. It changes down too soon really, and holds gears too long before changing up, but would still choose auto over manual.
The best vehicle I have ever had for towing was a jeep grand cherokee with 2.7 merc engine and merc auto box.
