2013 2.2 TDCi ford ranger issues to look for

I need a new vehicle for general use and towing. Have seen one of these near to me, manual rather than auto (would prefer auto but it's close enough to just go for a look). Are these reliable? Any issues to look for - have read about wet belt but does this have a chain?

Oil pumps are well known for giving up around 80k miles
There will be plenty of people who’ve put big mileage on trouble free but they generally aren’t a well regarded engine

They have a chain.
Ran a 2016 2.2 to 90k miles, no issues apart from aircon failed.

133800 on clock.
Took a punt on a 13 plate ranger a few years back from a farm auction & bought without seeing it in person.
Only real issue is the bloody wheel nuts, absolute sham
If you get one, get the wheel nut covers off - if you can & replace the nuts with retrofit solid ones

Ok ideal! Having done a good bit of research I think I'm going to avoid this one as it doesn't have any history with it which puts me off a lot

My brother uses one we might sell for right money.
66 plate, think is 50k miles, it's immaculate because for some reason we always use mine for running about fields.
Pm if interested, not sure where you are?

DPF. Replaced at 100k, hasn't worked and Ford are saying that it's because it's not a genuine part. 2k to swap.

Was either the thermostat or vaporiser on mine always playing up. vaporiser blocks but easy to clean. Engine needs to stay above 80°c to regen so Thermostat needs to work, temp on engine would drop below 80°c even for a second was enough to stop the regen half way through which was enough to put eml on.

Done the vaporiser, the main dealer had it in for a week, it won't fully go in to regen. They say they've seen it before with non genuine DPF. Other engines aren't affected apparently.

Blocked vaporizers, oil

Yes have known this problem with cheap non OE dpf's. You're original one was likely fine.

Ford wanted to change mine, £1500 at the time.
I asked around and was sent to a specialist diagnostics garage who found the problem: a blown fuse. Apparently when the vaporiser fails it blows the fuse, and despite it being the subject of a dealer technical bulletin that the fuse must be replaced with the vaporiser very rarely do they do it, leading to the next thing in the system being replaced needlessly: the DPF.

As they say, there are mechanics, and there are fitters, and very few franchises train their staff to be mechanics.

Special mention to Krypton Garage in Blackburn near Livingstone, for diagnosing and fixing the problem in 10 minutes flat.
