Next door cut around 30 acres of spring barley yesterday here in east Dorset . Looks like it was coming off fairly well considering the season it has had . Ours is about a week away as drilled a week - 10 days latter .

West or east of your farm? My neighbour to the north of the village cut a bit of spring barley yesterday on a clay cap hill top though I have no idea how well it was going & they seemed to stop very early. All mine is 7-10 days away yet though I've got wheat ready from early next week. 300 ac of osr to cut before that when it stops frigging raining :banghead:

Is a later maturing date for the same variety of any crop a good thing or a bad one? Early maturity could mean stress has stopped it prematurely or it has been well looked after, lacking in nothing so I has completed its life cycle without interruption :scratchhead:

I'm beginning to doubt we'll start in August crops are still hanging on and looking well.
Longer in the bed more in the shed they used to say . You boys are a lot latter up there than us southerners . Used to go up to Fraserbourgh goose shooting in mid sept and still barley to be cut .

You must be a very positive person to be around.
I am very much on the other side and think early maturity is because the plant has given up hope and has decided to to a die, and probably leaving a load of crappy grains to be collected

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
