Am trying to make myself prefer the Izuzu D Max as its lighter and doesnt run the over 2040kg weight/ speed issue but it isn't stacking up to my 2019 L200 - sadly no longer available to the UK market.

Anyone got a 2023 Ranger? Hilux?

ETA are roller tops ever waterproof vs a full cab?

Many thanks

Two hiluxs here 23 plate invincible x’s they are great trucks however the price tags a major downside , eco mode for everyday cow checks etc and power mode when towing , very capable trucks just make sure you shod them with decent tyres ones they come with are rubbish , Isuzu d max not had a new one but the 2015 plate one we have here is a great truck pulls like a train and never any bother other than usual wear an tear . My advice would be book some test drives and see if the extra cost of the hilux is justified

Took delivery of my new VW Amarok Panamericana yesterday so far too early to give an in depth review.
However so far very pleased.
Ride is excellent and the interior is a step up from my old Amarok the dog will hate it as not going to let him inside the cabin .😆
From my old V6 it does not seem quite as powerful and does feel bigger but the power thing is no big deal as still plenty strong enough.
Love the tech available but I am not able to source a canopy yet as nothing available till the new year.

Saw one of these the other day really liked the look of it , I’ve always like the Amarok

Have had L200s since 2016 but just got a new Hilux Invincible X.

Loved my L200s but the Hilux is definately more of a "real" commercial truck, suspension is far superior to the L200 giving a real firm ride on the road. 10 year, 100k miles warranty is exceptional.

Shame it breaches the 2040kg limit though. I'm sure that will catch me out at some point!

Always had Toyota pickups , never new ones though
Latest one is a 2011 3.0ltr and If I am honest it’s a cumbersome barge of a thing ( we have tight yards and a 1/4 mile moor road to the house
I’ve just gone back to a td5 defender! Not a nice drive compared to the Toyota but a far better day to day farm truck for our situation

Can you explain the eco/power mode thing and what it does? Are you getting a big fuel saving from this feature?

Eco definitely more fuel efficient but does reduce power quite a bit unsure on savings as I haven’t done a comparison, power mode as suggests more power quicker throttle response but reduced fuel economy and greater risk of losing ya license 🤣

No big fuel savings at all.mine stays in eco all the time.only differance the power button makes is that it revs higher until changeing gear in the auto.not really noticed any differance to be honest.will use more fuel in power mode due to above comment

Ahhh I see. Just changes gear box strategy. It would be useful if it dialled back the fuel system but it doesn't appear to here.

I read somewhere on here that I should get a Honda Jazz and hack the back off with a gas axe. (y)

However, I went changed my 2015 L200 for a new Musso Saracen about 6 weeks ago in an attempt to be a little less illegal when towing:censored:. Very pleased with it so far and a cracking towing vehicle with a fully laden 14' triaxle behind. Obviously uses a bit more fuel when doing that, as does every vehicle, but I've not taken it out of Eco mode yet.
Yes, I expect resale value wont be as good, but don't intend changing it until about fooked anyway, and it starts off at a good £5K less than a similarly specc'd Isuzu (which will need an £800 remap to come up to the power of most of it's rivals), and a good bit more than that less than the other makes.

Has way more tech than is ever necessary on a work truck, included heated rear seats to keep all the cr*p thrown in there warm.

An observation from the old VW 2.0 biturbo , when new was it was the most gutless pos, but with 10,000km drove completely differently, the reality is they need to be run in , used and making sure the engine gets loaded in order to bed in properly, that's said thats not implying that you redline it everywhere.
Ironically I've heard the same thing with diesel Colorado's.

Got a roller on a 26k mile 22 invincible 2.8 manual because that's what was on it, surprisingly seems watertight.Truck a bit better on fuel than the d max manual I had for 10 years and thought was good.My son is on his second 2.8 manual and they are just as good.
