23c engine

Last year I redid the 23c engine on my fe35. New pistons, liners, rings, overhauled injectors and injection pump. It was running fine and starting great but my pump seized up 1 day and stripped the camshaft.i replaced the camshaft and had the pump repaired but I can't seem to get it to start like it did. I have re timed the camshaft and tried retiming the pump but it still won't play ball.

Yesterday I had another while at it, and remained the pump, using a set square to set he master spline at 45 degrees as I'm told that is where they should be set at. Still not keen to start.

Anyone know any other things to look out for

Just seems to turn over, once it has started and has run for five or ran minutes, if you switch it off and leave it for more than 29sexonds it struggles to start again

dont think its timing then it would smoke a lot when trying to start. Probably fuel problem pump slow building pressure or diesel running back to tank

Fix it, sell it and buy the 3 cyl perkins version like you should have done in the first place. Better starting, more torque and just a far better engine all round.

After I rebuilt the engine last year the tractor was starting exceptionally well, probably as good as the local 3cyls and sounded better when running aswell

have you still got the old camshaft?

did you measure and compare the angle of the lobes on the old/new ones

reading your posts it seems thats the only thing what has changed within the engine what could make it behave like it does, maybe the new camshaft is excessively worn and is not opening/closing the valves at the correct time

Yeah, still got old camshaft, never thought about that. I have taken the pump I the lad who overhauled it to get him to time it precisely then I will rebuild it and try it gain, if no luck I might pull the camshaft and check for wear.

would be mighty unlucky but what are the chances on the replacement camshaft being twisted? Slim i know, but like i said, if thats all thats been changed to turn a good starter into a bad one, it must be something camshaft related???

Will wait until I get my pump back and make sure all the timing is spot in and give it a try. If there is still a problem then the camshaft will come out for a bit of investigation

Sorry meant to update this

Tractor has a cracked head which is away being repaired. Camshaft checked and is slightly less worn than the original. Head is getting new valves fitted and seats cut and a light skim on the face.

Will update after the rebuild
