Wev bought a 1365. Others may think theyr just old hat but iv mowed with a few different mowers and by far my favourite is a 1365. One thing i will say is mowin with a side mount its easier to judge to shave the dyke but the rest of the field i prefer a trailed

I’ve used both and found mounted better on hills, be sensible what direction your turning and no troubles. At least the mower will always be in the same place, unlike the trailed.

Access of lanes much better with mounted, so too travel on the road.

Trailed mowers do seem better built however and deal with stresses better, a fatigued piece of chassis on a trailed is unlikely to fail quickly whereas the mounted would fall apart.

How u findin the massey 8s so far
It was a demo the mf rep put it on YouTube I wouldn’t know how! The 7720 on the trailer is my usual forager tractor the 8s was great for that job I really liked it and it had plenty of poke but it was 25hp more than ours. Only trouble is it was physically massive I’m not sure how it would fit our job

I bought a JD 1355 trailed brand new in 2008 . Cuts approx 230 acres a year .
It’s had 3 new skids last year due to wear and one conditioner tine, I change the gearbox and bed oil every two years. Think I paid 8.5k for it , it’s never let us down and probably still worth 5k.
All I’m saying is buy a decent trailed mower for the acreage and it will last for a long long time and cost little and be a lot kinder on your tractors than a mounted.
Also I think the OP wanted advice on which make to buy , not financial advice.

I shopped about last autumn for quotes on rear mowers. Got quotes for both mounted and trailed equivalents.

Pottinger 3.2 rear mounted roughly £15k
Pottinger 3.2 Centre pull trailed £25k

With a few extras it's roughly £10k difference. As much as I love my trailed mowers I can't see myself buying another when a mounted is so much cheaper.

Gone up a fair bit in a year! We bought a brand new pottinger mounted start of last season for £11k!

Used to cut 600 acres annually with a mounted 1.85 metre Kidd Clipper then traded it in for a trailed version of the same to cut 800 acres annually…which lasted us 13 years (10,500 acres) with sensible maintenance costs.

Wow! What could you cut in an hour? It couldn’t have been any more than 3 acres could it? That’s a lot of mowing hours in a year!
