50 cases of Covid-19 have been recorded at a Moy Park processing facility located in Anwick, Lincolnshire.
A spokesperson for Moy Park said:
Our continued focus is the safety of our staff. Those affected have been self-isolating on full pay in line with our Covid-19 sick pay scheme and we are in regular contact with them to ensure they have the support they require.
“As coronavirus has spread across the communities in which we live, we are doing all that we can to help keep the virus out of our facilities and help prevent its spread.
“We strictly follow all safeguarding procedures across our sites, such as enhanced cleaning and hygiene regimes, thermal temperature scanning, one-way systems, Perspex screens, additional PPE [personal protective equipment] and social distancing measures.
“We continue to work closely with Public Health England and other government agencies, following their advice and protocols.”
Other Covid-19 outbreaks
Processing facilities have suffered a number of large outbreaks of Covid-19 in previous weeks after the testing of workers for Covid-19 at the xxxxxxxxx Country Foods plant in Watton, Norfolk, revealed that over 140 staff members have tested positive for Covid-19 on October 27.
This came days after 75 workers at the nearby Bernard Matthews meat plant had also tested positive for Covid-19.
A “small number” of Covid-19 cases had previously been confirmed in the plant on October 15.
The council’s director of public health, Dr. Louise Smith, said in a statement:
“Testing of staff at xxxxxxxxx Foods has revealed a significant outbreak.
At this stage we have identified about 140 positive cases out of around 300 tested so far. The analysis of swabs continues and the remaining staff on site are being tested today and tomorrow.
“Due to the high proportion of positive case results received so far, we are liaising with the Joint Biosecurity Centre and have stepped up contact tracing and leaf-letting in the Watton area, urging people with symptoms to access testing.”
