I thought or read some threads suggesting £10/ panel wash and £20/ panel full system. Was that £30/ panel full works?

In view of this, we are happy to make it easy for customers to have the coating done as affordable as possible.

Upfront cost is £20 plus VAT per panel or per 250 watt. But we can also do, £10 plus VAT initial deposit, per panel, and then 50% share in the INCREASE IN EARNINGS for 3 years only.

From the 4th year, customer keeps all earnings. At the end of the 3rd year, we would also be able to know how the coating is doing and also, we would be able to advise the customer whether to install the SPRINKLER system or not.

If installing the sprinklers would help, we might even agree with the customer to install them on the same terms ( initial deposit plus 50% share for 3 years ).

This sounds fair to us - as we are not just collecting your money and leaving you behind, but we are walking with you, hand in hand.

I thought or read some threads suggesting £10/ panel wash and £20/ panel full system. Was that £30/ panel full works?

3 options are available :

(1) ( Sprinkler + Coating ) - full system.

This is between £30 to £35 per panel. The closer you are to 1000 panels, the closer you will be to £35 a panel. The closer you are to 100,000 panels, the closer you are to £30. But, all sites, different situations.

(2) Coating only - £20 upfront per 250 watt. No share in the increase in earnings.

(3) Coating only - £10 upfront per 250 watt plus 50% share in the increase in earnings for 3 years.

And so, those are the 3 options available.

in order to compare the performance of the panels before and after treatment you need to get a solar meter to measure the level of sun so that you can get a more accurate idea if they are better or not after treatment, you also need to wash them down and take a few readings before treatment so that you have something to compare with. the meters are not expensive.

We are happy to bring along a LUX METER. We would measure the sunlight before the treatment and record how much is being totally generated. We would also measure the sunlight after the treatment and record what is being totally generated. And the two can be compared to give everyone an idea.

SYSTEM ESTIMATED RUNNING COST

If your only apply the coating on the panels without the sprinkler system, the running cost is 0 pence. Because there is nothing to maintain, the coating just works with the rain. However, if you install the coating and the sprinkler system, then the figures below applies :

We estimate £1/panel/year as the running cost of the sprinkler system per year. This will give you 52 rinses in a year - rinsing the panels once a week. Therefore, it will cost you about 2 pence per panel, every time you rinse the panels. Since the rain will also be falling on the panels, they really should be looking spotless every single time.

The running cost of the sprinkler system will consist mainly of 3 items namely : ( electricity, water and salt for the softener ). Because the water softener system is easy to install and maintain, we would usually go for this option, as long as there is access to a tap water on the site. If there is no tap water, we would utilize other options, based on the site circumstances. The calculation below is for a water softening system.

ELECTRICITY COST.

The electricity that will be used by the pump and the controller is very negligible. The pump will only run for about 10 minutes for every rinse, once a week. For instance, 1000 watt pump running for 10 minutes will use :

1KW x 10 / 60 = 0.167 KWH
if 1 KWH of electricity costs 15 pence = £0.15
0.167 KWH will cost = 0.167 x 0.15 = 2.5 pence per one rinsing session.
If rinsing is done once a week, it will be done 52 times in a year.

Estimated yearly electricity cost = 52 x 2.5 pence = £1.30 yearly.

WATER COST.

Rinsing the panel will be done once a week. Every rinsing session will take about 4 liters per panel. Using 70KW = 280 panels as an example :


Rinsing interval = once a week.
Each panel will be rinsed for about 45 secs to 55 secs.
Volume of water used per panel = 4 liters.
Total number of panels = 280 panels
Total rinse in a year = 52 rinses
Volume of water used per rinse = 4 x 280 = 1,120 liters.
Total volume used per year = 1,120 x 52 weeks = 58,240 liters
Cost of water is estimated as £1.5 for usage and £1.5 for sewage per 1000 litres = £3 per cubic meter
1000 litres = 1 cubic meter
Total cost of water yearly = 58.240 cubic meter x £3 = £174.72

SALT FOR WATER SOFTENER

The water softener will need to be re-filled with salt about once every 2 months. We will provide you with 6 bags of
20KG or 25 KG salt that should last you for about 1 year. You can always buy the salt in a lot of shops e.g. B&Q, WICKES etc A link is added here for a view of a bag of salt. A 25KG in B&Q costs £13.85 and will last for around 2 months - depending on the hardness of your water. And so, you should be fine with about 6 bags in a year. If 25KG is too heavy for you, you can buy them in smaller sizes as well.

25KG of water softener salt = £13.82
6 bags = £82.92

ESTIMATED YEARLY TOTAL COST = £82.92+ £174.72 + £1.30 = £258.94

For a total of 280 panels,
Cost per panel per year = £258.94 / 280 = 92 pence per year.
Cost per panel per rinse = 92 pence / 52 rinses = 1.7 pence per rinse.

Since water carries majority of the cost, for very big sites, drilling a bore-hole will reduce the running cost significantly.

And so, we estimate £1 per panel per year as the running cost of the system.

We also suggest an optional 5-yearly health-check visit at a cost of £250 plus VAT. We would come around and make checks on the system to make sure everything is working the way it should.

THE GUARANTEE ON THE SYSTEM ARE AS FOLLOWS :

(1) Coating - guaranteed to be active on the panel surface for 10 years.
(2) Sprinkler system ( sprinklers, pipe-line, water filter ) - guaranteed for 10 years.
(3) Water pump is covered by the manufacturer's guarantee - usually 1 year warranty.
(4) Water softener is covered by the manufacturer's guarantee - usually 7 year warranty.

Total tariff Yearly = £60.69 + £4.88 = £65.57

Many research suggest that, solar panels in this kind of condition can lose up to 35%. 50% lose in efficiency is not impossible. We will use 30%.

30% loss in efficiency = 30% loss in earnings.
Total earnings for 100% clean 250 WATT per year = £65.57
30% loss in efficiency = £19.67 loss in earnings yearly.
We expect the ( Coating + Sprinkler ) to reduce the lose in efficiency to about 5% Max.

After installing the system, increase in efficiency = 30% - 5% = 25%
25% increase in earnings = 25% x £65.57 = £16.39
Running cost of system is £1 per 250 Watt panel.
Total increase in earnings = £16.39 - £1 = £15.39 yearly.

Total increase in earnings in 2.5 years = 2.5 x £15.39 = £38.48 } 2.5-Year Pay-back.

It should take less than 2 years and 6 months for the system to pay for itself and after that, it begins to generate you a profit at the rate of £15 Yearly per 250 Watt.


(2) 2ND CASE - SOLAR PANELS THAT ARE CLEANED ONCE A YEAR.

In this case, we believe that the loss in efficiency will be at least 20%.

Total earnings for 100% clean 250 WATT per year = £65.57
20% loss in efficiency = £13.11 loss in earnings.
The ( Coating + Sprinkler ) should reduce the lose in efficiency to 5% Max.

After installing the system, increase in efficiency = 20% - 5% = 15%
15% increase in earnings = 15% x £65.57 = £9.83
Running cost is £1 / panel
Total increase in earnings = £9.10 - £1 = £8.83 yearly.

Total increase in earnings in 4 Years = £35.34 } 4-Year Pay-Back

It should take around 4 years for the system to pay for itself and after that, it begins to generate you a profit at the rate of £8.80 Yearly per 250 Watt without the cost of paying someone to clean the panels.

The warranty on the Water pump is 1 year, however, for your peace of mind, you can extend it to a 5-year warranty ( Parts and Labour ) for a one-off payment of £200 Inc VAT.

3 years payment of 50% share = 3 x £4.90 = £14.7 } 2-Year Pay-back.
Fourth year increase in earnings = £9.80 - since, you will not be paying us anymore in the 4th year.

You should get your investment back in just about 2 years, make some profit in the 3rd year, and from the 4th year, you should be making £9.80 yearly as profit for every 250 Watt that is coated.

(b) 2ND CASE - SOLAR PANELS THAT ARE CLEANED ONCE A YEAR.

In this case, we believe that the loss in efficiency will be at least 20%.

Total earnings for 100% clean 250 WATT per year = £65.57
20% loss in efficiency = £13.11 loss in earnings.
The ( Coating only ) should reduce the lose in efficiency by 10%

After applying the coating, increase in efficiency = 10 %
10% increase in earnings = 10% x £65.57 = £6.50
Running cost is £0 / panel
Total increase in earnings = £6.50 yearly.
50% Share of increase in earnings = £3.25
3 Years payment of 50% share = 3 x £3.25 = £9.75 } 3-Year Pay-back
4th year increase in earnings = £6.50 - since you will not be paying us anymore.

You should get your investment of £10 a panel back in about 3 years and from the 4th year, you should be making £6.50 profit yearly for every 250 Watt panel that is coated.


After 1 to 3 years, we will analyse your system and see if you can still improve the efficiency of the panels by installing the sprinkler system. If you can install the sprinklers and still make a tangible profit, we will give you the projection. At that time, expect to pay £20 a panel. If a customer can not afford the £20 upfront, we will consider doing the previous deal again ( £10 deposit and 50% share for 3 years ).
