Just after a couple of pointers regarding the 750a

Is rolling after drilling neccacary? Or is there good consolidation anyway.

What modifications would you recommend, I.e gutter wheels

Are stones a major issue.

Are there any cover crops that you have found it won't drill into?

What sort of hp per meter for dd only, with some steep hills

What if any are its main limitations

No but I sometimes do it for slugs or not quite happy enough with slot closure or if the old man wants a job

Used or second hand? What age is drill?

No they go over them

Not really. Done mustard up to my chest. Manure too.

I use a 137hp on my 3m I'd say 40hp is enough per m but I have some steep bits. My 7740 pulled it OK for first two years.

You need to maintain it well. Can get slotty of too wet. Fiddle to work on. OEM parts not good enough so need to buy genuine which is dearer

In order

No need to roll unless fir a reason like slugs

Gutlers a must, other things can help in some conditions but not essential

No and we have lots of stones

No it will drill into anything without blockage

160 hp on 4m is plenty

Not found any yet ! Maybe not the easiest drill to add fert to bit I'm doing that now, Hopper is a bit small but we have extended that

so regards to the guttlers, do they replace the existing press wheels or are they aswell as?

can you buy a new 750 with guttlers on from john deere.

at the moment i pull the 6m dale with a 6930 remapped about 180hp, so in your opinion would i pull a 6m 750a with it.

I would agree with the comments already made - guttlers are a must, rolling is recreational plus, there is no problem with trash.
Some might find the seed hopper a bit small (4m holds about 1.25T wheat). The markers are really agricultural but if you have autosteer then it doesn't matter too much. I have more hp than required on my drill, but I would guess that if you have any hilly ground then you'll want about 40hp/m.

6930 just about ok on a 6m - 200hp would be boss if you have big hills though IMO

Gutlers replace JD closers - aftermarket only like Wox engineering

I pull a 4meter with a 6820 so roughly 35hp per meter. Big hills you'll need more. Guttlers replace the cast round closing wheel. If you buy off GEF wox he'll provide you with the bushings and bolts needed as well.

What you thinking? Straight swop or adding another?

No need to get rid of one, thinking of keeping the dale and getting a 750a to replace the claydon. But on the other hand the claydon is the only cultivator we have and was good in 2012 for levelling some of the ruts out.

But I would like to get away from the big hp upfront so this is where the 750 would fit well with the dale.

I really like the dale except for heavy trash situations or where cover crops haven't been eaten, hence where I want a disc drill

Agree with above comments. We pull 6m with 250hp which is overkill even going up hills, but thought we'd need the hp for the odd bit of mole drainage. The longer your ground is undisturbed, the softer it should become (according to experiences of no-tillers around the world) so maybe trade in tractor for smaller model (or a trantor!) in a year or two...

@Clive I knew there was something I wanted to bend your ear about at BASE the other day...your fertiliser set-up. I know you've discussed it on here, but can't find the thread now. How does it go? Did you opt for solid or liquid? We need something to do in the workshop while the weather is so grim! Tempted to look at a front mounted tank and squirt liquid behind the coulters

I really like the 6930s we have. Comfortable and up to the job I can't wait to farm in a system where these are the big boys of the system. I am surprised how slow the no till system is catching on.
