750A seed boot bolts

Having developed some play in the seed boot mounting bolt holes of my 750A I have got a Drillfix kit from Shoup. However, there is a problem. The kit is designed for 3/8" bolts but the bolts on my drill are thicker than this (7/16" I think). Obviously the holes in the boot itself are designed for the bigger bolt but they won't go through the hole in the new bush. The new 3/8 bolts obviously fit through the bush but are a very loose in the holes in the boot.

I am currently exchanging emails with Shoup to figure out what is going on. They say that as far as they know all drills have 3/8 bolts.
Who else has used the Drillfix kit (I think it is also known by other names) and what size bolts did you use?
I know Angus has used them without problems.
Does anyone else happen to know the size of the bolts in their drill?

I haven’t used a kit as mine aren’t worn up but I’m literally changing the seed boots at this minute and my bolts are definitely like the larger 7/16 black bolts in your photo.

Can you just buy metric bolts to fit?

The bolts need to be thin enough to go through the bush in the coulter arm holes (3/8) but the holes in the boots are 7/16.
Need bolts with variable thickness!

Morning Richard 90 series seed boots on my drill which must use the smaller 3/8 bolts. What year is your drill? I didn't think it would be on the new re-designed pro series coulter & seed boot? (if they have a larger bolt...?)

& you have had it since new? So would know if it had been drilled out for different size bolts....?

One of the other repair kits does use a bigger bolt, I think Clive used that kit on his first 750a.

My drill is a 2016 model and I have had it from new.
All 3 holes in the arm are the bigger size so it must have been made that way.
I have just bought some 3/8 to 7/16 bushes to fit in the holes in the boot so the thinner bolts will be a good fit.

I didn’t use the kit - drilling the oval hole round isn’t easy so we had ours milled out and bushed by a local machine shop - made our own bushes and bought bolts

Issue now resolved.
The person I originally dealt with at Shoup failed to tell me that there are two versions of the kit. He should have checked that I ordered the correct one. It isn't obvious from their website, so I didn't know.
They are now sending the correct kit foc and were very apologetic.
I'm happy with the service in sorting it out as they have done all they can to help.
If anyone should need a kit to suit 3/8" bolts then get in touch. Although I'm keeping it until the replacement arrives.

So 0.425 on a used bolt. that was more likely to have started out life as a 0.475 = 7/16 than a 3/8 = 0.375. That means my horrible thought that the early drills used a 3/8 bolt & Shoup have sent you a batch of early rather than late bushings is probably the problem...... They must be able to supply the larger bushes because I have got them!

How many acres has your drill done. My 2016 4m has just had its first set of new boots and fourth set of discs. I reckon it’s done 2700 acres or thereabouts . As yet the seed boot bolt holes are still hardly worn.

2016 3 metre. Done around 15-1600acres. On it's second set of discs. Original boots.
The wear is partly the bolt but mainly the holes in the coulter arm.

The replacement kit has arrived with bigger bushes, new bolts and the jig to suit. Despatched on Wednesday.
Can't complain about the service from Shoup.
The 3/8" kit is now available. 18 bolts and bushes and the drilling jig.

do you mind me asking where you got these bushings?
i ordered new coulters and bolts with part numbers off jd parts and it never crossed my mind that there could/would be different coulters/bolts.
just for reference for anyone going to re-metal their drill, coulters with 7/16 holes are N284044(rh) and N284045 (lh). 3/8 are N280446 rh and N280447 lh. @Howdenshire Farmer
