90% of carbon credits are junk

I think it is more important to know a business' carbon footprint - to know how to improve.
The money spent on some of these projects would be better spent reducing energy consumption of the big businesses purchasing these in my opinion.
Fraud and deception have many forms but so too do investigations.

Who is the criminal? The buyer or the seller?
The enablers. The organisations and politicians agreements that set these schemes up. No shortage of willing participants, it’s hardly their fault that the starting pistol was fired without proper rules governing the whole scam. Sickening amounts of money being moved around and it’s virtually all a lie.

On a far smaller scale, I know someone who went on hols to Central America, then bought a person in the developing world a stove to offset the Carbon footprint of the flight. Complete rubbish in my opinion, if she wanted to reduce her Carbon footprint she could have gone camping in Skegness or somewhere else in the UK. All it is is buying indulgencies.

It would be most helpful if everybody were to go camping somewhere in the UK where their custom and money would be appreciated.

But hey, its the future of farming.........according to @Clive

This is exactly why some of the big players have walked away. We were approached by a supermarket chain about 3 years ago and subsequently had numerous discussions with them about this. Loads of back and forth and in the end they said it wasn’t quantifiable so we’re leaving it for the time being. They weren’t just interested in land though as they were looking at our renewables and recycling in a bigger picture.

I’ve since looked at the various companies that will trade your credits and again they can’t deal with things like composting, solar panels, renewable heat and from a land point of view they want a long term agreement, where as it should be annually so you trade what you want for 12 months and aren’t tied for 10 years.

The whole thing could implode and people will want their money back in my view 🤷🏻‍♂️
