County council ploughs £3.4m into farm deal
A 241-acre farm put up for sale with an asking price of £3.4m has been sold to Cambridgeshire County Council.
They have sold off quite a few smallish plots adjacent to built up areas for development think this is the farm estate dept saying they deserve a small part of the proceeds to keep the estate size relatively stable. S106 money all comes with conditions, the only part of the County Council that normally gets a slice is the education dept for school extensions
But will any of it actually be farmed beyond the very short term?!There has been a lot on here about County Councils selling off their farms, meanwhile...

South Cambs Council bought an empty office building as an investment, also were rumoured to have bought the freehold to a diesel engine factory, great idea with govt phasing out petrol/diesel Against that CCC buying farmland looks good
They can line the stars up for themselves no problem but turn you down everytime.

Obviously but why does a council need a field 100 miles away?
Nottinghamshire CC owned an electricity company (private eyes passim ad nauseum) which was terribly run and cost taxpayers a fortune...... probably something they shouldn’t have got involved with
