A little bit of history

Tonight on the campaign for Jeremy Lee independent candidate for Bury St Edmunds & Stowmarket , I had the privilege of being show. The Courthouse and the last surviving Observer Operations room in the country

The history of the Guildhall is amazing

Alongside thr robing and banqueting rooms is the last operations room that saved us in the Battle of Britain

The East was gridded with volunteer observers triangulated in each square shown . Sittings and positions were recorded and relayed to the Operations Room as radar only worked over the sea

The volunteers undertook 24 hour shifts in huts everywhere having to accurately identify enemy and friendly planes by sound alone (120 planes )

The number of men committed to the front line and the need for speed with the positioning staff meant in the end it was mainly Land Army girls who did a shift on the land and then biked to the Ops Room

I could have spent hours in here . It’s open to the public www.burystedmundsguildhall.org.uk

Marvellous but we will probably be needing Observer Operations Rooms again if we get independent MPs!

I much enjoy your posts but you seem totally obsessed with the past and dare I say it you are very Sentimental. Old trucks, old relatives and “Ye Olde England” is wonderful but it’s 2024 and you need to look to the future. Progression!

I totally agree that the country is currently Shambolic but an Independent MP ain’t going to be of any use in solving it. You were vehemently opposed to Brexit and how he is he going to change it for you? You are sitting on a fence and wanting it to smell of honeysuckle circa 1960.

The National picture is decided. End of

I don't think a Conservative parachuted in deserves to be my MP

I want a good constituency MP, not whipped and without her / his only ambition towards National / High office

You look at what IS achieved at local Government level and much of that is working with other parties and independents

Where's your constituency and what is it's electoral position now and likely on Friday. What do you want?

I admire history and heritage. I also embrace new technology. At work I'd say I'm quite leading edge compared with my peers

I'm a product of a London overspill New Town and also embrace modern architecture and living communities

I know nothing of you ......... ?

What brings you to deduce that?

Because you perpetually post sentimental photos. The “London overspill New Town…” doesn’t need to be said either and sounds like Woke spin.

let’s leave it there!

You want to pollute the thread, so I'll answer

London overspill town (Harlow) was there to show I actually don't think just about old and history

And I still know nothing about you or what your thoughts are

I repeat :

Where's your constituency and what is it's electoral position now and likely on Friday. What do you want?

Brexit is done

Labour are talking of a best terms trading arrangement and nothing further

So you're right I was vehemently against it, am still but that ship has sailed

Since I last logged-on on Monday you seem to have become increasingly politically excitable.

Remarkably though you haven’t yet posted pictures of your son wearing a Jeremy Lee Two Mills branded boiler suit etc. 😂

I have no idea whether i agree with @JP1 politics or not. The important thing is that we live in a country where he is able to stand for parliament. I have a friend who has done the same, unfortunately not in my constituency. There are plenty of countries where this is not possible and perhaps life threatening if you try. So i would congratulate anybody who tries to stand whatever their colours.

As i type this the windows of my house are shaking because of ukrainian and british military having a little practice just down the road from me. Makes me think that whatever happens tonight I will be ok. Some of those i see every day are not in such a good place.

Good luck JP

You should be there looking after him then rather than farting about and looking after your own ego.

As the father of a profoundly disabled child who has spent a quarter of his life ( I.e 3 years) in and out of hospital and ICU you have my absolute sympathy.

i’m really sorry but your endless pious social media tweets are getting beyond boring.
