They do know what we think though because they read the farming forum.

One would hope they would find enlightenment on TFF, but it isn't their job to represent here, it is to represent their members.
Therein lies the problem. Do they represent their vocal members, wealthiest members, all members or farmers........
As @milkloss alluded, silence isn't agreement.

Let’s be honest… they know what a few think on tff but it’s hardly a majority of farmers. There’s still a high number of tff farmers that don’t voice their opinions at all, is that tacit agreement? Much the same method of policy formulation as the Nfu I guess.

How many farmers do you think want to pay a private company to invent rules over and above the legal requirements purely to keep the private company in business?

I have a couple - Guy Smith and Alistair Mackintosh maybe but the glaring issue is that they are also paid by the aforementioned private company. Its a real problem with quite a negative ethical dimension

Haven't a clue.... not many I'd guess. But then not many have really stood up and said they don't? Couple of dozen on here maybe.

I don't know many that do (want to pay RT).

It's rather strange really. NFU know non-assured imports come here, yet support a scheme which gold plates our standards, and is run by a company that has positioned itself between buyer and the UK farmer. Don't pay up, and you struggle to sell your produce to the same market as the non assured imports. NFU support that.

No wonder I don't know many who like paying RT.

The notion it will set our produce apart from imports has never materialised. 20 years on and the imports still compete. So why continue with the same policy of supporting RT?

The non farming union won't answer your question. They know and we all know they don't have an answer. The only answer is corruption. Come on non farming union ..answer the question

if I'm honest it's all getting pretty much over my head. I'm a beef farmer that quit RT maybe 5 or 6 years ago.

As I get older I start to see things in a more simple and straight forward fashion which is why I only quoted the last half of your post.

Not many farmers like paying for RT but yet most arable farmers probably do. Isn't paying for it essentially supporting it? Giving it life and purpose.... feeling wanted?

For me it's just the principle of it all - the double standards.

We sacked off beef assurance a few years back. Restricted is to the live market, but they want supporting anyway. FA doesn't seem to make any difference in the live ring, but I'd happily take a few less quid in the knowledge RT had lost a member.

Not so easy to drop FA for grain. Can drop it at next renewal, as only got feed grain next season, and I've a merchant who finds plenty of homes for non-assured. Hopefully there'll be some choice by then anyway.

The url came about after the demise of the farmingforum.co.uk
That didn’t die off for a good while afterwards iirc. When I tried to access it just now I got a full screen warning that it might be dodgy. So, what has happened to that site? Is it still operating if I choose to ignore Mr Apple’s dire warning to be careful?
This is the warning I get
