My old printer has packed in so on the lookout for a new one, I quite fancy an A3 printer for some of the things I print out, how ever the other half prints out a few photos and is worried the A3 printer wont be as good at this so I'm wondering if anyone has experience of photo printing with an A3 printer and if so which model

I bought a Brother from Staples a couple of months ago, sorry can't remember the model number but £150 and prints/copies A3. One of the reasons for the choice was because I can set it up as a network printer so NeilO Jnr can print off his homework easily. First lot of homework contained a couple of photos and I was quite impressed by the speed & quality (on ordinary paper) for such a cheap printer. Very pleased with it so far, especially since I've just found out I can buy refilled ink cartridges for it too.:)

I had noticed a couple of brother printers when I had a look about, sounds like they might be worth a bit more investigation.

Yes it is very good for printing drawings, I print a lot of A1 sized drawings off at A3 to save on costs so some of the text/dimensions are very small but the clarity is good. It does eat the ink, black cartridge lasts about 3 weeks for me, but the fact that all of the colours are separate means you only change the one you have to. Can't say that I have ever printed a map on A3 as I have a separate A4 for that. Send me a typical map you would print and I will run one off and let you know, I will even post it to you if you like so you can 'try before you buy'.

Thanks Phil. I use A3 at work for steading plans and copying farm maps but after I leave SAC in March one of my objectives is to learn mapmaker for doing conservation plans and farm waste management plans. I have always managed to avoid mapmaker so far as our trainee is very good on it.

Nothing can beat an Epson Stylus Pro printer for images, wish I could afford to run one though. I use a Canon Pixma MX882 for images at the moment and a HP Deskjet 3050 (I think) for worded documents.
