Abdominal pains

Location

I've been having mild to severe abdominal pains over the last three months. Can be left or right side, sometimes both and pain varies from discomfort to severe. I've had kidney stones before and initially thought they had come back as the pain was the same and in the same place.

Blood, poo tests and a scan has ruled out kidney stones, diverticulitis, low calcium. I am now eating less as I feel bloated after a normal sized meal and am low on energy/always tired.Been referred to local hospital with up to 18 week waiting list.

Any ideas anyone? I am a 65 year old man

PS; I've googled the symptoms and come up with ectopic pregnancy or period pains!

I used to get stomach pain every day until I changed my diet ,
Probiotics helped me
Fermented foods
Kefir and Natural Greek Yogart , go easy on bread , I only eat Wholemeal Sourdough

I would say the above: are you getting pain after eating? I was diagnosed with being intolerant to Lacotes and eggs (I love Eggs and a Milkshake! ). I Used to get doubled over in pain before being glued to the loo. Your's could be wheat or alike. Here you can get your blood work done and get the results in just a few days, may be worth going private for an intolerance test.

You may have what I am waiting to be diagnosed with (ultrasound scan tomorrow) which is ADPKD …. Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease.
Or, in other words, you have cysts on your kidney(s).

Outlook ain’t brilliant if they are growing as ultimately it’s removal, dialysis or transplant. And if they don’t appeal, you can leave them, suffer pain and then have pallative end of life care as they fail

might be worth forking out, and see a private specialist.

friends of ours were facing a long wait, paid out, and basically getting the medicines now, rather than in 6 months time.

health is something not to be played about with. You don't get a second chance.

I was somewhat amazed to find four of us (3 men, one woman) in the waiting room for ultrasound scans at 8.30am on a Sunday on the last day of the year.
Still, I had a rather fetching radiographer (married) probe me with her wand.
Seems only one cyst was found - albeit it has grown since 2020 and now it’s back to GP for onward referral to a urologist to a treatment plan
So long as that doesn’t involve giving up alcohol, all will be good

On call sonographer may be called in if there is a worthwhile case load from the wards or if there is an emergency presentation that needs investigating (i.e. possible testicular torsion).

Kidney cysts are not uncommon in older people- something like 5% of the population over 50 have one and they won't ever know as they don't generally cause any grief.
