ABP Cattle Insurance Just a Con?

This week I had a good heifer that went to ABP that came back with C Bovis and they only paid £1.50 instead of £3.18. I automatically presumed that as I pay £3.00 for every animal I send it that the difference would be covered by insurance.
But NO C Bovis is specifically excluded and when I asked how many they get I was told only around 12 - 24 a year. Bearing in mind that the carcass is all usable after it has been frozen for 10 days, £1.50 seems very harsh.

I then asked how often the insurance pays out and was given a very vague reply as to what would be covered but not how much. Bearing in mind that this abattoir could be killing over a thousand cattle a week, so over £3k in insurance coming in.

Has anyone on here ever been paid out on ABP insurance and if so how much?

Yes a few times over the years on condemned carcasses, peritonitis etc. If you tell them you suspect something is wrong with it you don’t get paid. Say nothing and the lairage vet doesn’t suspect anything, plead ignorance and act surprised when you get your grading sheet you’re home and dry [emoji6]

my old man used to say about abbatoirs, pay you really well at first, then quickly drop down to normal price, then bloody sting you on a bunch, finding a reason for doing so, but pay a bit more on the next batch, and so forth !!

And fox and other wildlife shite ?

I did hear NZ is quite bad for C bovis, but because it doesn't hurt anyone, no one takes any notice of it !!

Just another excuse for the slaughter house to rob us.
C. Bovis is a human to cattle life cycle. The adult tapeworms are found in the human intestine. Cattle get infected by eggs from human faeces. The intermediate stage is the cyst in bovine muscle, which a human needs to eat to continue the life cycle.

So not quite an excuse to get cheap beef. It is a public health issue. Sounds like someone's had a tom tit in @Frank-the-Wool's field.
