ABP payments

Why do ABP insist on cheque payment, its a nice feeling getting the cheque in the post but seems a archaic way of doing it. Apparently there are a large number of cheques that have never been banked maybe this is why they do it as a BACS cant go missing. Surely its only a matter of time before cheques are no longer accepted.

...and banking cheques is getting more difficult now .
You are probably right about cheques getting lost .
It's the same reason that shops love 'gift tokens ' cos statistical evidence shows that only about 60% are ever cashed in !
Some markets won't pay by bacs. It's annoying and archaic.

We were saying the same thing the other day.

I brought this up with
1) Local mart ----who now pay me by BACS
2) ABP Yetminster----& i think i have had a BACS payment from them since but can't be 100% sure

Took me 3 goes before the local mart changed ideas

So Larry can hold on to his money for a bit longer.
Pretty much everything with me is paid in by BACS these days Including the Mart and Scotbeef.

Only one that doesn’t is British Gas for the electricity generated by our solar panels.
Will only pay by cheque which is farcical when they penalise you so heavily if you don’t pay for your gas/electricity by monthly direct debit.

Our local market is on a Friday starting at 12.00 so you can take the cheque from the previous week to the bank on your way home. Bank has decided to shut the counter at 12.30. They're still open , don't know what for,but won't take the cheque 🤬

Im at the stage of a cheque is involved I won’t deal with you unless I really have to , it’s a days event for me to pay the dammed things in and I have gone years without receiving or using one.
Same unless under £1000 so can be uploaded by phone. There is 1 person I write a cheque to when buying sheep but it’s a substantial amount once a year, we both decided this year we’d move to bacs for next year after it took them 6 weeks to get to the bank after I’d given them the cheque

I’m pretty much there as well. Hate cheques and do everything online and prefer all payments by BACS.
20 mile round trip to the bank who then charge me £1.50 for the privilege of banking each cheque. Only written one business cheque in the last three years and that was to a dear old boy, now passed on, who just didn’t understand sort code and account numbers when I called him to ask for them to pay online. Gave up in the end and sent a cheque.

We're nigh on 100 % BACS but still have a couple of firms,we use, who insist on cheques and refuse to do online banking. We still receive the odd cheque which means a 4 mile trip to the Post Office which is no hardship as the Postmaster is a personal friend and I can make spending money cash withdraws and see to my Mothers Post office accounts for her.
Interestingly I was talking to a friend who was telling me that online fraud is on the increase and they are becoming extremely sophisticated. He suggested there may be a time where the fraudsters will be ahead of the game and online banking could become very risky. This is a man is someone who, let's say, would know.
I sincerely hope that time never arrives.

We have always posted any cheques (getting fewer and fewer) to the bank - the postman just picks our outgoing mail up.

I can't understand why anyone would deliver a cheque to the bank by hand.

Last time I went to bank they told me to go to post office. The service is much better.

bank has an automatic pay in machine like a cash machine. Only problem is it’s in the bank so slightly pointless as bank still has to be open.

Money stays in ABP account longer.

Even if they give you the cheque right away and you run straight to the Bank, your account won't be credited for three working days.

Even if it show's on your balance it'll be "uncleared funds" for a while.

Mind you, it's the same with cash, withdraw some and it's taken off your Account same day, pay in and it'll be the end of the next working day.

its a fair amount of time in a day for me to get into the office wash hands take boots of etc open tinternet, get through the bank security ,check account to see if been paid for several days around due date ,then chase up if not .Whilst if post comes with or without a cheque in an envelope I know without checking then mrs 4 course can take chq and pay it in plus a record of payments rec is available at a moments notice for the last few weeks , plus when paying bills other than the regular so s could just pspend an hour a week writing chqs putting them in envelopes with a post by date where the stamp goes and again leave in the capable hands of mrs 4 course Life used to be so much easier I have yet to find any saving in time in fact its the opposite
