acidosis in new born calves

Can someone tell me how much sodium bicarb you give a 30 kg new born calf that has had a difficult calving, hopefully the vets will sell the solution, presume it will not be POM anyway

Go steady and talk to a vet. I think Distocia related Acidosis is acid blood (from excess CO2); not the same as stomach acidosis. The bicarb treatment is intravenous. I might be wrong; talk to a vet.

I know exactly what it is and the result of hard or prolonged calving, causing calf to be slow to sit up and other problems as time passes.
Do not have any calves at present needing treatment but want to be ready for any that have above symptoms so they can get early treatment.
Am sure vet will sell a sterile solution of what I need, its just the dose I was wanting

Excuse the stupidity here, are you able to expand on how you know it is acidiosis from hard calving etc and not just a big dopey calve???

Might be worth having a read into this as never heard much about it

You obviously don't read much of Basil Lowman's (SAC/SRUC) work. Don't know the details of the top of my head but the acidosis in the blood (caused by difficult calving) make the calf dopey and slow to stand/suck. Neutralising the acid brings the calf round to normal behavior.
