Can someone tell me how much sodium bicarb you give a 30 kg new born calf that has had a difficult calving, hopefully the vets will sell the solution, presume it will not be POM anyway
You obviously don't read much of Basil Lowman's (SAC/SRUC) work. Don't know the details of the top of my head but the acidosis in the blood (caused by difficult calving) make the calf dopey and slow to stand/suck. Neutralising the acid brings the calf round to normal behavior.Excuse the stupidity here, are you able to expand on how you know it is acidiosis from hard calving etc and not just a big dopey calve???
Might be worth having a read into this as never heard much about it
