Sim x calves born in April weaned November, usually ad lib them once out to grass in may, should I be doing it now? We take them to fat 22-25 months. Atm there on silage and 15% protein blend with wheat and oats, currently on 3kg per head
If they were only born this year why do they need to be on so much food already?? Couldn’t you keep them through the first winter cheaply, turn them out in spring when they’ll grow like buggery, maybe give them a bit of cake coming to the end of grazing to get them on the grub and then finish them?? Sounds like a lot of food for their age in their first year!! my opinion only an could be totally wrong...
