ADVICE ABOUT CONCRETE PLEASE !

Hello All.
Would like to lay some concrete as a base for our new agricultural building and also in front. Total area is around 40 mtrs x 20 mtrs. Can anyone advice how to calculate the cost of Ready mix and depth required ?

If you really are a newbie, then can I suggest that you find a local contractor for that amount of concrete.
40m x 20m at 6" deep is around 120 cubes. That's a fair days work, and a big investment- easily upward of £10k + labour

Quantity is simple, length X width X depth
So if 6” deep that would be 20 x 40 x 0.15 = 144
Price varies by mix and location but probably somewhere between £80 and £100 per cubic meter.

He is not that far out on the needed amount by the time you allow 10% for settlement, but yes, a slight oops on the arithmetic.

Allways ask for plenty when getting a quote, keeps em keen on price, you can allways cut it back later.

I was upset when my guy over ordered by half a cube. I think he would of been buried under the extra 24 cube!

The trick is to have some areas prepared - gateposts, patches, gateways - so that any extra can be used though I often don-t plan well enough. Always annoying to see extra just dumped somewhere.

Indeed, but I don’t know how others work but I tend to give an indication of how much I want.................with better maths than this morning and when I get down to the last load have a quick calculation of how much is needed to finish off
Don’t know what went wrong earlier, probably pressed a wrong button on the calculator, guess it pays to take heed of the old adage, measure twice and cut once or more to the point, check your calculations

No, no, I fecked up on my calculations earlier and said more concrete was needed than actually required.

Sorry for hijacking but can some one explain what strength concrete the following is C32/40 pump MCC320?
Is it a good strong spec?

40n @ 28 days with a minimum cement content of 320kg/m3.
I wouldn’t want to be breaking it out with a jack hammer after a month anyway [emoji23].
There is a lot more to specifying concrete than its 28 strength.
What is it for? Slabs or walls?
How soon do you need to traffic it?
If walls how soon do you want to strip Formwork?
Do you need early age strength?
All these things matter.

40newton as determined by cube strength. The C32 part refers to cylinder strength which Americans tend to use. Should be plenty strong for most agri elements such as yards, pits etc

If it`s for a yard that is going to get deicing salt then specify air entraining additive.
Prevents it getting frost damage. Will be described as PAV2 mix

It’s for an external yard - Mostly HGVs and Ag equipment.
