No, not moving apart, wrong sort of fault; in fact it gradually moving to the North West, sliding along the edge of the North American plate as it does so. (y)

It's merely Arizona and Nevada divorcing California, and now it's working it's way NW in an attempt to move in with Washington state.

America wont have to wait for geology to cause a massive split. The split process is well underway, fuelled by the culture wars. Constitutionally, it’s very unlikely USA will exist in its current form in say 20 to thirty years.

You keep on writing these sort of things, I wonder why...

On that tack, once Ukraine has defeated Russia it will be very keen to get into NATO and the EU a.s.a.p., what's your opinion on that, the EU bit?

I say that about USA, as the evidence is incontrovertible. The societal and political splits get deeper by the day, and at an ever increasing rate. The duopoly of Republicans and Democrats, is breaking because of the extreme shifts within the Republicans. The dysfunctionallity within its ranks is manifest. The credibility of SCOTUS is now for a great many Americans completely sundered. Trust in the police is over. Irreparable damage has been done to trust in the electoral system, by the shenanigans of Trump and a significant section of the GOP. All the while, social media has become the platform of choice and immense power, in terms of radicalising and mobilising all the cannon fodder out there, to be at the beck and call of bad actors on all sides. And by the way, AI hasn’t yet been properly unleashed on the plebs. Imagine all the Majorey Taylor Greens, who are yet to be created and unleashed…???
Then to utterly prime the pump, it just so happens that there is an unending supply of assault weapons and ammo out there waiting for its time. And probably upwards of a million trained ex military and police, well able to fight and train / organise others. Then of course there is the official military and police, who themselves have been radicalised. Capitol Hill?????
Meanwhile, economic power of China and SE Asia, will in the not too distant future, challenge and possibly topple the USD as the preeminent global currency. Once that happens, the USA game is well and truly up. All bets are off.

Fascinating... once Ukraine has defeated Russia it will be very keen to get into NATO and the EU a.s.a.p., what's your opinion on that, the EU bit? 😐

Imagine the EU, with all that deep fertile wheat land within its borders. However, I do wonder about the cultural fit, between EU and Ukraine. I imagine corruption there would make the very worst excesses of Southern Europe blush. Haughey wouldn’t get even a seat at the table. Good scrappers though, ….

Joking apart, I think you'll see a very different Ukraine after the war, the people will have given up so much that they simply won't tolerate the sort of thing that went on before.

But what do you think, should Ukraine be allowed in quickly?

That I would think is much too big a question to answer lightly. That said, this war is set to radically change Europe, in its immediate aftermath, in the same way as WW2 did. Ukraine I expect will be admitted to both EU and NATO.
Then again, what will NATO be, when not if, USA breaks up???

Would you like to see the UK rejoin the EU?

Oh, that’s a no brainer. Of course I would like to see UK rejoin. In fact I wish it had never left.
However, as in the Ben Wallace discussion, realpolitik decrees that rejoining is simply not a realistic option. It would cause too much internal angst, and would in effect be a sort of humiliation of a powerful nation. Humiliating big powerful nations, does not turn out well in the long run. Germany after Treaty of Versailles, was a classic example, which directly led to the rise of Hitler. One can say the rise of Putin, was also as a result of the humiliation of the USSR. Not suggesting there is the same potential in UK, but why let an uncontrollable genie out of the bottle.

Of course, we are currently and at an increasing pace, observing a realisation that Brexit hasn’t worked, isn’t working, and shows no signs of working in future. Inch by inch, row by row, as the song says, Britain is acknowledging that, and realigning itself with EU. Windsor Framework, Horizon, trying to get itself a deal on EV tariffs, etc, etc. Labour will probably be the next government, and will find it emotionally easier to speed up the realignment process. Ten years time, you will be within the orbit of the EU regulatory framework, writing cheques to stay in the framework, but will have no direct voice at the table.

I would much prefer Britain to be within the EU proper, with a vote at the table, and be the axis of the Northern European members, who naturally formed a voting block, to balance France and Germany, and some of the southern Europeans. I’m talking about Ireland, Netherlands, Denmark, Finland, Austria, all of which voted en masse with UK on critical issues within the EU.
