Went through the process with them until they wanted to know far more about my business and myself than I was comfortable telling someone who I knew nothing about. I kept thinking that's it then low and behold they needed yet more details from you. Once it got onto details about the people in the business I had had enough. So they basically got to know all about my business for free. Waste of time and effort.

Essentially there’s no difference between this and the selling of carbon credits for projects around the world that don’t deliver on promises. Media have been taking an interest in these for quite a while now. Much talk of tightening up etc but it’s essentially selling snake oil and everyone knows it, but there’s obscene amounts of money to be made and it doesn‘t suit anyone to rock the boat just yet.

Hey, good luck to anyone chancing their arm, I admire your bravery and I haven’t ruled out a little flutter myself, but the wheels will come off eventually. It’s more a question of when.

There’s an old stockmarket adage. The market can remain irrational longer than you can remain solvent. Maybe daft to turn down the coin when it’s available?

Even if it is rubbish Clive has still had the money for carbon flow payments so I can't see the problem?

He won't have to pay it back

Can't see a problem tbh, it looks like the perfect way to finance an electric Porsche Taycan to help save the planet. (/S)

The question is, how much would they pay for 'carbon sequestration' on 180ha of winter sown arable cropping, or is it only available to those playing the 'cover crop & DD' card?

At face value (website and Companies House) they look credible and secure.

Danish Company, so they are better than most.

Not quite true. The environmental legislation in the UK can retrospectively make a legal act today illegal. So when it comes to your actions regarding nature including CO2 offsetting people, businesses and government can be held liable in the future.

Basically if it is not in the planets best interest there is no where to hide. We are currently dealing with NG in order to remediate an environmental calamity from 1890. And it’s not going to be cheap!

What is the farmer liable for? There is no obligation to sequester carbon the obligation into manage your land annually in order to reduce carbon flow

In terms of environmental legislation it is hard to tell what the future holds. As I said it can make something that is perfectly normal and widely accepted retrospectively illegal and liable for remediation and remuneration.

For example, spraying a certain chemical on a field could become a liability in the future, or even our septic tanks discharging into a burn and damaging the environment. Maybe even taking payment based on “unsound environmental greenwashing” could have to be repaid, who knows what the future holds and that’s why I’m constantly endeavouring to ensure a sustainable future on my farm, I believe that this will be the best defence in a court of law, if someone comes knocking….

I do accept that productivity and profitability is important in our sector and sometimes worrying about an unknown consequences can limit our ability to achieve this. It’s a balance as with nature. Most farmers are aware of this and are probably the best caretakers of our environment and that is why I would be cautious of outsourcing this to private financial markets in order to make a quick buck… everyone’s different!
