Agriculture Bill 13 May

I would urge everyone to take 5 minutes to read the below, and if you support the proposed amendments to The Agriculture Bill to send the template email to your MP. All the work has been done, it even fills in the name of your MP from your postcode, you just have to put your name to it.

Even if you don't want to support the proposed amendments, I would hope everyone would agree that this is how you run a campaign on behalf of your members .

Two threads running urging you all to take 5 minutes to email your MP, as they prepare to have their final chance today to debate the most important piece of legislation affecting your business for years.

And you would rather debate whether or not a god exists for you to blame your woes on. Or whether instead you should blame a washed up pop star.

Tells you all you need to know, really.

Judging from the activity on the LWA fb page, I would say that well over a 1000 people will have sent an email to their MP via their template.
Not bad for a bunch of pot-smoking, lentil-knitting commies.

But, hey, who knows, maybe the NFU have got it right. On their fb page there's no mention of the Agriculture Bill, instead you can sign up to get a 'back British farming' car sticker. Yeah, that'll send a strong message to your elected representatives.

The NFU at branch, regional and national level have been repeatedly e-mailing all members for several weeks to write to their MP.

I’m not sure about the ‘Tory rebels’, it was just on the news that the electronic voting system they are using confused a number of MPs, so they accidentally voted against the govt, and for the amendments. Still defeated by 50 votes though iirc. :(

They'd only have two buttons to press..... reminds you of the old Private Eye line 'new technology baffles p!ssed old hack'.

the significance of this is ????
Is this amendment in the Bill now never to be spoken of again, or does the Lords get a chance to pick and change ?

To a layman, what has happened.

Our elected politicians have voted through a bill to stop ‘area payments’ and replace them with a scheme that pays for ‘public good’, and have voted against the proposed amendments which would ensure that any imported ag products have to be produced to the same standards as UK produce.

In short, the UK government has pushed forward with their aims to leave Europe ‘come what may’/with no deal and to have free and open trade with anyone & everyone, whilst at the same time bringing in legislation to only support any uk ‘land managers’ (not ‘farmers’) that choose to supply ‘public goods’.
Park keeping here we come.:( They’re almost as big a bunch of fecktards as those that voted them in imo, but hey ho.
