Agronony- claims and expectations

Parting ways with our agronomist and the parent company which is a well known, supposedly well respected and reviewed farming/ management service company.

Long story short, lack of agronomist visits, agronomy done on timings rather than in field situation, non existent weed control this season due to the previous points, no one to cover the area when Ill (foot injury so can't walk the land) so not had a visit in over a month and no interest in changing the attitude towards us. We have now set another agronomist on and having some serious tank mixes to carry out and a lot more passes than normal for our spraying contractor. All at our cost at the moment.

Has anyone got experience of claims against them for not providing the service, covering our increased costs or claims for loss of yield etc due to their negligence and breech of contract?

out of interest was it serviced or independent agronomy ?
I'm not 100% on the terminology so I'm going with independent. We pay per ha of cereals crops for that growing season. This included all our agronomy services etc but with sampling and such extra. This also gave us membership for purchasing through the company we used. Of which it has given us some considerable savings over the last three years because of their negotiation power and the land mass they farm/ manage and consult over.

Unfortunately I’d say you have next to no chance. There are way too many variables in agronomy to ever have a claim. Even in obvious cases of crop damage it’s hard enough.

Pretty tuff to claim, teflon. The closest I came to was when I planted spring linseed and harvested a fantastic crop of wild oats. Needless to say some very stiff words were exchanged and the agronomist never set foot on the farm again, he was utterly useless but he still works for the same company, heaven knows what his clients crops look like!

Probably very clean. He's learnt from his experience and now sells everyone full rate Axial Pro.🤐

I suppose the question is, what do you need your agronomist to do for you? Do you have the knowledge to question, amend or alter mixes to make your life easier? We moved from serviced to independent a fair while ago now. Much better. But there are huge differences between my brothers agronomist and mine. But thats because we want different things. My brothers must walk miles and miles and miles, and despite having maybe 80ac of combinables its not unusual for me to get 4 slightly different recs for one T1 job. Because his agronomist judges potential etc and gets the best result - any inconvenience for the spray man (me) is tough. My brother might not set foot in the field in the year. My agronomist probably does slightly less walking but then I am always looking at the crop. Ours is more of a discussion with his mandate being to keep the crop stood while we push it for yield.

Im 90% certain I could tell you now what T1, T2 and weed control will be needed this season right now.

I can read a label and work out a growth stage as well as anybody. But we have to have a man with a certificate to satisfy RT. Did it myself up until two years ago. Can’t be arsed to become basis qualified so pay a man. He’s decent to be fair but I’m always on edge when somebody else is doing it and I’m paying for the boxes of Chen that keep rolling up.

So you’ve left a serviced agronomy company and set on another serviced agronomist in its place 🤷🏻‍♂️?

The most ‘tank mix’ you should see today is a couple of fungicides and a growth reg.

That’s not entirely true…yes there are lots less chems about but I do my own agronomy and will tank mix as much as I can; T1 will be 2x fung, 1 herb, 1 pgr and a manganese
