Question should be: Just how much levy payers money are the AHDB wasting?...

Do you not think the public could ask the same question of BPS?

Unless minutes are taken at meetings its all hearsay, and even then different views can minuted as found out at a meeting i attended where 3 different versions were understood by 3 people.

There should be enough levy for R and D and promotion but we as farmers forget we are NOT the target audience so just because it doesn't appeal to us doesn't mean it won't appeal to Joe Public.

It makes you wonder if our lot could come up with something good in the run up to easter it wouldn't need to be as long as that but could have the potential to be a little bit like the john lewis advert something a bit different every year, and whilst lamb does need promoting all year round easter could be the one meal where people would make a change and eat lamb

I think Easter is to early for proper lamb campaign, sadly it's when it's gets the biggest push

I think August holiday weekend when potentially better weather and able to barbique , still have leg butterflied for barbi, chops and lamb burgers , it might actually get more people to try lamb as more deverse options?

We had my lad rugby team here for a BBQ catch up before training started , not one of them brought any real meat it was all processed into mush and seasoned so you couldn't tell what animal it was. The meat was just a carrier for the flavours.

So just who is the target audience for R+ D work then if it isn't farmers??

Ref the promotion, I expected to be told what promotion work the B+ L board are intending to carry out this year but from what was said at the meeting then it appears very little if any ( for beef ) the idea of the meeting was to keep levy payers updated on what they are doing and going to do,most of the time they were going on about what they did in 2015 which is a complete waste of time and not what farmers wanted to know about.

With calls for greater spend on advertising and tackling the likes of monibot are farmers prepared to put up that level off money ?

They have a income of 23 million, they claim they spend half that on advertising when you take exports into account but given the way they didn't present actual figures then it was impossible to know if the claim about 50% was true or not.

Plenty of savings to be had at the AHDB, doing this and increasing the add budget to 75% of income would make a hell of a difference.

R+D spending has to be cut.

You misunderstood me, the target audience for the promotion is not us farmers, I've seen campaigns and thought what a waste of farmers money...but have been loved by Joe Public.

The trouble is they are not doing anywhere near enough promotion and levy payers want them to be doing much more of this and less money on R+D etc ( as was very clear at the meeting )

Also a lot of people are very unhappy about the way that the RT logo is not being promoted very well/ if at all and feel they should be working much more closely with the AHDB in both using the logo better on packaging and promoting it/ what it stands for much better with the consumer..

One farmer had spent 90 mins before the meeting at a nearby very large city supermarket asking consumers at the meet counter if they knew what the RT logo was and what it stands for, apparently only 1 out of 10 questioned could answer these questions which just goes to show that something needs to be done about promoting the RT scheme and what it stands for to the shoppers.

Some say that the AHDB should take ownership of the RT company and the logo.

That explains a LOT...

Hence why the NFU and all the other farming unions always support new rules etc and never question what/ how the RT logo is being used etc..

Conflicting intrests here by the union's and I cannot see how they can both represent their union members and also their RT business intrests at the same time.

Very clear that the ownership of the RT company needs to be taken away from the farming unions.
