Anyone use one of these? Uk produced, with these low pressures howling in and virtually zero solar from my system I am drawing off the mains a fair bit. Site is fine as used to be an old pumping station with windmill, just a few trees to thin out. Seems pricey mind for what it is. Did think to have a go at making one as am handy with fibreglass/carbon fibre/tig welding etc

Yes I had the 5 blade version 24v 1kw on 1 of my electric gates for a few years. (don't think the make the 5 blader anymore, but the generator is the same)
It worked great to start with, will do 1kw when wind is strong.
But you need a diversion dump (a heater is normally used) to ensure that, if all the produced power is not needed it goes somewhere, in order to maintain the load on the generator.
Else it will overspeed.

In very high winds you have to switch it off by doing the stall procedure, but once the winds are too high, this can be difficult to do or just too late.
Overspeed will damage it.
Ultimately after a few years the main bearing will cease and either bin it, or send it back for them to repair it.
I got fed up with it in the end and added 2 more solar panels to my gate batteries and gave up with it.
However in December time, solar panels barely keep the gate working and this (when working) did a great job of topping up the batteries in winter.

It needs to be high and away from buildings and trees to avoid the turbulent air which can cause damage and poor power output.

It is not the same PMG (generator), it is a completely new version made in the UK with much higher specs
