Will the incalf heifers eat anything under 20% dm before calving

1st cut on the deck, pick up tomorrow.

This probably the heaviest crop, 4th year ley, only 2 cuts + grazing last year, then good dose of muck last autumn.

First year new seeds, planted late Sept last year in incredibly dry conditions. took an awful long time to get going. Our 4 year leys never get any herbicide, we put the white clover in the seedbed, rather than spraying out weeds and stitching in clover in first year, which seems a waste of a year of the ley. Usually get a few docks by the end of 4 years but never any major issues. Usually masses of clover by the end of its term!

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
