A quiet one.

We've had good success with Devon bulls - quiet, fertile, get the job done without too much.

Heifers just cough and the calf is out. Then the calf just shakes it's head and it's latched on. Doesn't need much more than a gallon of a milk and some oxygen and off they go.

I was thinking of an Angus but my problem is he might get too big on me, he won’t be on his own so I can’t hold the feed back on him. Would a Devon go fat/too big quick?

I know of two outfits paying good money for Wagyu calves. Might be worth looking into by the shape of them they will slip out no problem and be a quiet bull I would think

Careful not to confuse a Devon with a South Devon which are massive giraffe type things.

Our Devon bull would be about 600kg. Our previous one was slightly heavier but he last used just shy of a decade.

Apologies for the poor picture but this is Jackie, one of our first two Jerseys to arrive here back in March 2018. Both were empty and dry when we bought them and whilst the other got in calf reasonably quickly, Jackie had other ideas. Eventually she was pd+ but I guess she slipped it and being a bit soft I ran her on, and it looks like a change of bull did the trick.

So we had our 12 months Tb test last week 1 reactor and 6 ir had a letter today saying that they have changed the reading to severe and now they want to take 5. So bloody frustrating. Has anyone else had this? Had 4 ir last year and they went clear on second test.
