I’m not criticising anyone but would @Jdunn55 not have a good income stream of breeding bulls and clearing out the dead wood
I would love to one day, I need to first get my cow numbers up so serving to sexed semen and then I need to get a name for myself and my herd of cows and show I know what I'm doing when it comes to breeding and show that my cows are good enough, and that only comes with time

In terms of dead wood, as said it's one cow not a herd of them so wouldn't take much thinning but I like her too much to get rid of her unfortunately

Why not run the bull with Bertha? Stick him in a week before her return date and pull him out the day after serving.

This embryo Idea is throwing good money after bad when the bull is right there

Maybe not the very very very best but having worked for the previous owner for the past 2 years I like to think I've got one or two that I atleast would consider the best

Financially you're all right in that I should sell her but as pointed out by me and others it's one cow not a herd of them if I cant afford to haveone cow to make me smile when I'm having a sh!t day I should give up now

I get that most of you are financially driven and every penny has to be counted and costed
I'm cow driven, every cow has to be treated and looked after like a princess, I expect nothing but the best for them from anyone who works with them.
Those old pet cows will break your heart, especially if they are pretty much culls.

I think most are just pointing out that you can’t afford to have unproductive animals during start up years. Especially when it’s 1 cow is a significant percentage of your herd.

I'm not going to do the embryo idea with her, imo that only works with cows that are still milking really well but just won't get in calf I might try that in a day or two but I'm not sure how easy calving he would be on a dairy cow
