All things Dairy

What are they and what are they meant to do? I just assumed it was a type of bolus for minerals but from the above they're a bit more specialised? Something to do with ketosis??

Monensin alters the rumen flora to improve feed efficiency. I don't think it's a hormone but it's a bit close to being an antibiotic. It's widely used as a feed additive in most countries outside Europe.

Perhaps they would be useful
On your fatty carry round @Jdunn55 🤣
😱😱😱😱 watch who you're calling fat! Shes just big boned! 😂😂😂
I'll speak with my vet about them as I dare say they'll have had experience with them and I am going to guess that they're probably not cheap... I'm not keen on having metal springs anywhere near my cows though, are there other types or are these the only ones?

I’ve used them on twins, the odd cow i was worried about or vet recommended them after a cow had a LDA. Get regurgitated, mine are usually at the front of cubicles

Tried one to see if it would go through, to be fair if it was stood on yes it would have but for all I’m using I don’t see it as a problem. I have a lot of roadside fields, finding all sorts of rubbish in the silage worries me more.

Keep an eye out for cows looking bad in a day or two someone’s probably ate the net and wrap
The bales they've eaten from were already ripped luckily/unluckily (depending on how you look at it!) So hopefully they'll be fine, We had to clear a path to a drain cover because the drain was blocked which meant tunneling through a stack of bales and unfortunately cut a couple of them with the tractors tires on the way in 🙄
