looking the the hoops sale catalogue, admiring the figures and pedigrees, that would be wasted here. In some of the pedigrees, saw 'avoncroft matchmaker', that was the first holstien bull, we ever used, till then, it was friesian, that must have been 1974/6, or thereabouts
In the UK sires direct catalogue, they still offer, friesian bulls, from that era, now, and l can remember using some of them pre holstien !

Best get three phase then.
The enquiry was made 16 months ago I should get the surveyor next month. And this is an industry that hopes to have enough charging points for all new cars to be electric in 9 years.
First quote was over 250k due to crossing a railway line.
This quote simply has to put up a new line for 1.5 miles.

Rural infrastructure will be way behind in this new electric world.

The time of year when cows are going out before sunrise. Could well be the last day here today, looks unsettled from tomorrow on now, and they have gone round everything I want grazed off now, could let them graze a few fields free range, however if it goes wet, there is no point making a mess. Been out by day 7 months and 6 months at night, so am happy with how grazing has gone this year. And no fertiliser applied since July, and grass growth this autumn has been great. So with the price of fertiliser now, might only apply for first 3 rounds of grazing next year, and use the dirty water from then on.

How has grazing gone for others this year?

210 days out so far, hoping to see at least half of November out by day
Good grassy year, but all or nothing spells meant managing wedges and predicting surpluses was tricky

I think you would be very mistaken
Don't expect it would get anywhere near 50%. And probably far less amongst organic farms.
300cows on single phase is a juggle but doable.
I agree, can’t think of many farms locally with 3 phase. Ours went in 2 and a bit years ago, 3 poles, £25k. For people who don’t have it and have a line running through their land, then this can be a bargaining chip.

Local town to us industrial estate area has got planning for one of these sites for diesel generators to feed back into the grid.
Locals up in arms why it's not batteries.
The reason is there is not enough spare capacity to bring the power in to charge the batteries. So the diesel generators allow the national grid to get away without investing in the infrastructure.

60 point rotary milking 500 plus 15miles away on single phase,he used to milk in a 30/30 using a generator in the morning but could get away without in the afternoon,I was amazed he didn’t have 3ph,can’t think of anyone local without it.

Just about to pay for a new 3phase connection on some land I own and the price is £17k to a cubicle 15m from the pole.

I shouldn’t really like that, but with the DNOs and the current climate it doesn’t seem too bad.

I bloody didn’t ! Am still missing some of those that went to the beach earlier this week ! We changed grass silage pits earlier this week and added maize in. Litres have gone back up to 19.65. If we can hold the line quality wise that would be 1.89 kgs pf solids or 77% of peak. Not bad when to season ends in 60 days 👍
Result is in quality gone from 9.52 to 9.51 happy with that.

My brother had an identical connection 18months ago and it cost £13k,I’m of the opinion it’s only going to cost more year on year, unfortunately the cable from the meter is going to cost circa £35k.🙁

We put an additional 3 phase supply in 5 years and it cost us £600! They tapped into a buried cable 10m away.
