Gone are the days of cheap electric connections, once of a day they wanted to supply you, nowadays it’s pot luck who thinks up the figure,18 years ago a single phase supply to a field of mine was £1300 at the same time it was £5300 for a supply into my dads barn,he wasn’t happy my supply was cheaper but that’s life.

we were on split phase, 2 lives in, but wires were renewed while we stopped milking, so single phaze, 100 amp, same as a domestic house, made life interesting when we went back in, the quote to 'upgrade', was beyond our pockets at the time, so we have some 'gadgets' in the system, that stop to many 'bits' running at once, all works fine, except the bore hole pump, used to trip quite regularly, sorted that out by running a cable, from another metre.
When we put electricity into the new bungalow, that was several £1000's, to come 20 m, the foreman doing the job, said we had been overcharged, because it was a simpler connection than quoted for, and we were due a 'refund', still waiting for it 5 years later, l chased once, and thought, it isn't going to happen.

Currently trying to get a single phase supply to our new chicken house, £23k to bring it 4 poles then 100m underground. Thought it wasn't too bad until they said they wanted it paid in full before they would even send out a surveyor to look at it :banghead:

Local town to us industrial estate area has got planning for one of these sites for diesel generators to feed back into the grid.
Locals up in arms why it's not batteries.
The reason is there is not enough spare capacity to bring the power in to charge the batteries. So the diesel generators allow the national grid to get away without investing in the infrastructure.
Diesel generation facilities pulled around 3 yrs ago.

When we built our house the bloke from Western power sucked air through his teeth and said "Its going to be dear, best we can do is 15kva and don't even thing of using a welder off it! "

Quote was £67250 to come off a pole 1/2 mile away, apparently Dartmoor national park won't allow poles so it would have run under the road!

We've got a generator , solar and a huge battery!

Looks cheap against what I was quoted from Northern Powergrid, £150k for a similar distance
