I agree, many round here have not turned out yet and are on the butt end of their winter forage so probably not milking at their best. Next couple of weeks could see a bit more of a surge than normal as everyone empties their sheds.View attachment 1175421
Is it really a spring flush. Only 1.2% down on last year where I think Ireland has been talking about yields down by 10% because of the weather.
Will be interesting where it goes if spring really is about to turn up.
forgot the guineas, 2 didn't sellav £1317, dragged back by the later calved, and only served cows, which surprised me a bit, as some were giving a lot of milk, price dropped £250 ish a head on them.
mustn't complain though, the av was more than we expected, by £100+ !
anyone on here that bought any, thankyou, and hope they do well for you.
I thought trade is back on what it was a month ago, well done. Cows looked well, we sold one solid pen of heifers and the other pen went cheap.av £1317, dragged back by the later calved, and only served cows, which surprised me a bit, as some were giving a lot of milk, price dropped £250 ish a head on them.

Yes but last April was very wet and cold as well, might be better to compare to a 5yr averageView attachment 1175421

What breed is the red heifer with the white stripe down her back?Could spring finally be on its way? Yearling heifers have gone out today with the bull and we've made a start on the slurryView attachment 1175450

thankyou. Sorry to see them go, but as above, its time. @Beef farmer was trying to get some luck money for you !!@som farmer
Sorry you couldn't make it today, saw James but missed speaking to him
The cows you sold today were a credit to you and especially your son
Infact they were too good for me as I came home without any
Bought 8 fresh grazing types which were more economically priced at £825 avg
We've still got 2 we bought off you in 2017
All the best
Jim
Really hard i guess to make that call to stop milking, easier once the call is made but hard getting there i would assume.slowly, l think, that's the idea anyway.
we kept back what we didn't think would sell for sensible money, ie barren price, cheaper to sell direct, than get barren price in the ring.
we also have some 'plain' older hols, pumping out 40+litres, a few with faults, empty, or just low yielders. Odd i/c cows. So, milk and fatten some, sell some fresh, and a few xbred will convert to sucklers. But, but, not sure son wasn't having second thoughts, really hope he isn't, took over a yr to get some gone ! But its down to him, said my piece.
perhaps it would have been better to sell all today needs a lot of money to get 'modern', with slurry regs, parlour and buildings.
really hope we do stop,.
one of the biggest reasons we chose to go now, rather than wait. For us, pretty well meant a green field site, if we wanted to stay in long term, that's serious money. Reckon there will be a lot go in the autumn.Really hard i guess to make that call to stop milking, easier once the call is made but hard getting there i would assume.
Being reported that trade for dairy cows is dropping off fast due to a certain GOV agency flat out visiting dairy farms at the present and putting a lot of pressure on most of them to reduce numbers sharply due to the slurry situation.
He told you slurry regulationsWhy not try sharefarm with someone? Provide the farm and them the cows and labour?
