Do love a storyback in the mid 70's, lucky to get it of in late november, maize has come a very long way since then. Very often 1 cob, and 15ft high was nearly normal. Rode round with the forager, striking out, maize taller than forager, not sure l would want to do that again, not so good on the stomach, weird.
15ft? Wow. Like 30 ton crops? Foragers wouldn't have been 9ft tall in the 70s, so can see why it wasn't nice riding aroundback in the mid 70's, lucky to get it of in late november, maize has come a very long way since then. when you see todays maize, it's a different crop, half the bulk, and twice the feed value, first year we grew it, we had a one row cutter, on our trailed forager, that rapidly changed to a two row, and nearly as rapidly evolved to a contractor, when a local one had a header. Those years pre corncracker, never even thought about cracking the grain, and it's interesting to see, whole grain is still fed in the states, more in beef than dairy. Might be interesting to say, we spent hours criss crossing the field with cotton and bamboo stakes, to stop the birds wiping it out, pre bird repellent, and it needed hard frosts, to mature.15ft? Too many calves.
That doesn't make a huge amount of sense. What date was it drilled. Either that or it's about to ripen like crazy. I still think you'll be sorted by mid October at latest.
When did you drill the covercrop ?
For an organic crop it's looking well.
ours looks similar, non organic, drilled 6 june, reckon mid october.
Clean as a whistle 10ft into the feild,When did you drill the covercrop ?
Which month? For an organic crop it's looking well.
Don't look at it again until the end of the month. And then you will see a change.
Nice and sunny in the photo …….For an organic crop it's looking well.
