What do most people do with fremartins, usually I’ve always put them into our beef group, we have had 6 sets now in the last few days,😩 I’m sure I read about a member saying most are actually fertile? 🤔
We have been using sexed semen for years so mainly get Heifer twins (had 1 set of triplets which are all milking as well), but we have had 5 sets of freemartins over the years and 3 of the 5 heifer calves have bred. I do wonder if crossbreds are more likely to breed.

Sell them. Calving the way we do we are not always aware of what is a twin so some inevitably get reared. Maybe some breed, we always find a couple at breeding it seems though.
Vet told us once that a cow might be carrying twins, slip the bull calf, have a live heifer and that could be a freemartin.

“High K silage or grass can be very unpalatable and downright dangerous for both milk fevers/ retained cleansing and staggers”

Just got to be careful with management of grazing
the importance of a proper transition diet.

It all starts with the dry cow, get that, and your milkers ration right, everything falls into place.

And, Joe S was incredibly knowledgeable on her subject, we had her as our nutritionist, as well, before she 'diversified', a great shame, she passed at an early age. A big loss to the industry.

difficult to say twin, or not, or which belongs to who, when you have a lot of cows calving at the same time.
Usually end up with odd hfr, that doesn't get i/calf, we like them, mmmm steaks !
In 50 yrs of messing about with cows, don't really think we have had more than an odd hfr get i/c, when twinned with a bull.
You can use a biro to see, basically how far it goes in, never bothered with it, they either calve, or not, and when we pd the hfrs, all becomes clear, with a nicely finished hfr.
Much more disappointed with our hfr, that calved with 2 blind quarters 🤬 🤬 🤬 🤬, nice hfr to.

How much notice do you normally get for Red Tractor inspection? We had our first one last April, must be due another soon but not heard anything yet.
