Think you’re better off doing your TB test before you have a clear out the compensation would be better than having one go down in the factory.
we tested our beef stores, a week before the dairy, so 30 gone, before we went down.

Last down in 2019, no lesions found then, letter today, no vis lesions found on the 2 cows, that failed.

with 120 calves due very soon, you can soon escalate numbers, and they all made more than compensation rate.

Hassle to test the extra and probably the most likely to fail, sods law one fails you could have sent. Also total waste of an animal that could go in the food chain.

I get all that what i was getting at is if they find two visible lesions they will bin them if they go as a rector and they find nothing they will go into the food chain any way.

They should have gone last winter, but my silage was so sh!t, they went out in spring like a sack of bones.
They have cost me nothing to have them here all summer, being thrown out on the hill with the drys. It's not had fert for over 10 years, there's lots of clover and they look really well fit for being there all summer.
Of all the ones I lost, they never found a leision or anything so finding anything in the slaughter house the ods will be slim. It will also be one less group to test, less stress and hassle for everyone for them to be gone now. Also should get some cash to pay the silage and straw bills.

That was the rule last time we went down, weren't allowed to send culls until the next test 🙄 but then they make it up as they go along depending on what suits them
we had some cattle, out on some keep, and a couple calved unexpectedly. The keep was rather 'exclusive', we were only allowed very occasional visits, not a problem, top stud for horses, cattle were looked after like the horses.

Tried to get a 'well fare' case, to move them to where we could tb test the calved hfrs, got a real jobsworth duty vet, asshole, blocked the movement of all the cattle there, indefinitely, some happy words were exchanged, and l said fine, l will have them shot there, with notice given to newspapers, to come and watch, he didn't think to much of that, but wouldn't back down.

Rung up min next day, different duty vet, compromised reached, no problem. We only wanted to move them to handling facilities, very close, but being a 'very posh place', we thought we had better do things by the book, didn't make that mistake again !

Lads all fed for another night shift. Rain due at 2am. 90ish acres left to go of long haul. Think we’ll be touch and go
