Any other country would, and do support a live trade to avoid tariffs and help the industry, and country, rather than suggesting sheep farmers all pile into beef. Sending lambs across the water would be quicker and better for welfare from the East as we have no real abattoirs left for lamb near, and a future cover cropping / mixed farming via ELMS etc could support an increase in sheep in the East.

and add the ridiculousness of internal sea crossings in Britain and Ireland being longer than the channel crossing...

40. In the light of this, we are proposing that no livestock or horse journeys will be allowed to take place if the forecast external temperature for the journey is outside of a temperature range of 5-30oC, unless the vehicle is able to regulate the internal temperature within a 5-30oC temperature range for the duration of the journey by means of a thermo-regulation system. This will apply to both short and long journeys

IF I have read this correctly then no livestock movements will be allowed on certain extreme temperature days of the years?

Am I correct?

Where is there a link to the consultation process? Can someone show me then i can make my views known where it matters (constructively)
As a beneficiary of government contracts in the past who has answers any amount of consultations I can honestly say that you might as well type it on here if you think they will take notice of a single reply.

I had it on good authority that future standard "public good" payments may have a maximum travel time much less than now. One suggestion was 4 hours. And has been stated higher up the thread that may encompass travel to market, standing time and outgoing transport time Just think about that for a moment. Even in an area dense in alternative livestock markets and processing plants (mine is definitely not) , you just couldn't do it all in 4 hours

Days? That could apply for months along much of the A9.

As the government has pledged not to allow imports to undercut our standards, I assume we will no longer import from countries that allow live exports or longer journeys than we will have here! That would put a stop to all imports I'd have thought

Or any countries where they might transport animals when the outside temperature is below 5 degrees, or above 30.

I don't know any decent farmer or haulier who is not pro animal welfare. The Government are in trouble over Brexit and this is one more sop.

Adverse conditions lead to a few investing in insulated / temp controlled vehicles to move weaners when ambient was less than 5 degrees but I consider they come out too humid and it's not that good for them compared with straw bedding

When you start playing fast and loose you also have to remember the Highlands and islands. Without decent domestic travel extensions, their markets will evaporate

As far as a large part of the Modern Tory party is concerned, Scotland is a place "far, far away", led by Mel Gibson's sister, Nicola. Why worry??

How many Conservative votes/MP's in Scotland these days...?
