Another dog or give it up?

Lost my collie the other day,
He was the most devoted and loyal dog I've ever known, to a fault almost if that could be possible.
It got me thinking i might just sell up.
I'm only running 120 ewes and some calves as i work off the farm, and around here the opportunity to scale up is practically zero.
If i could take on a trained dog that would fit in as a pet I'd be tempted to give it a few more years but i know those dogs are rare as a straight answer in an interview with a politician.. so my question is, firstly does anybody know of such a dog needing a job and a home and secondly what would you do?

Wasn't really paying attention, but there was a sign over the till in TFM Banbury (01295235043), today saying someone wanted to rehome, I'm sure, a collie.

So sorry for your loss. Personally I couldn't imagine not having dogs, and working with them. The size of the outfit, or the job, isn't important. It's just being together, working at something together. Even wee made-up jobs for a bit of craic together.
I'd be looking for an older boy or girl, not up to hard work but willing nonetheless to keep the game going with you. There are surely plenty around if you ask, farmers knowing the old one can't run all day, and likewise would die of shame at being left behind. You are their answer.

Had the same thing happen in August.
Lost the best dog I've ever had. He was only 4 and had 'the world at his feet'.
Felt like sh!t for ages.

Found a 2 yr old part trained dog so I could get my work done and year old one that was ready to start (with a view to making one like the one I lost).

Nothing will replace the old dog but these two have not given me time to mope over him..

To be fair, both dogs have come on far quicker than I expected and suddenly, the tragedy that happened, doesn't seem quite so bad.

My advice?

Feel for you its grief no matter what some say or think is hellish & its no different to loosing a v close human.
Get another,we lost our pet dog at 6.5yr old very rare thing it was but the 3 months without him was terrible.
nearly 2.5yrs on now our 27month old one has filled the void in his own way but thats what it needed.
Iam sure my other half has an extra layer of bubble wrap around this one but what more can you do.
Fingers crossed you find another & when your ready it will be right iam sure.

Sorry to hear of your loss, it’s never easy. Had too many pts here in the last couple of years, including one like you describe. Still miss that one, nearly a year later.

+1 for getting another if you are keeping on, however, this moment also gives you the perfect opportunity to reassess what you want to be doing. Are you happy enough pottering on with current numbers, alongside your other work? Do you still want to be doing similar when you’re five years older?
If not, then perhaps an opportune time to make some changes?
