Possibly parting with my 3m combination unit
Maschio DM with quick fit tines and packer roller done 6 seasons @ 1000ac
Nordsten drill with manual rate controller from cab, can increase rate by 20% not sure of age, had new coulter tips and feed rollers back in 2012

Nice unit but what sort of coulters are there on the Nordsten? If they are Suffolk type then not sure they will cut it in here.
Not sure about power harrows generally. Heavy rain afterwards has made a right mess of my neighbours. Slumped and capped but he over did it.
has that machine succeeded on heavy snot?
Not sure any machine will.

I only ever go through once, even on the heaviest land
Over the years the land has got easier and easier to work
This is one of this years fields which is fairly heavy going

Right
The reason i am asking is.
Today I had a trip down to see Andrew Guest, at Newark
Went with the intention of just buying a drill.
Was quite surprised at how little extra it was to get the full rig

Now my Power harrow has done only 5 seasons
I don`t know how much work any of his power harrows have done, but they have been stripped and rebuilt

So which will be the better machine??

My last Maschio which was only the DC model did 25 years, so we don`t hammer them

Primarily to buy a drill

Anyway was quite surprised at how little extra it was to get the full rig

However, I know my harrow has done 5 seasons, and has not been overworked

I have no idea how old his donor machines are, but they have been fully refurbed

Which is going to be the better machine
For the right price on mine will take a punt on one of his

Trade in your power Harrow might be route of least hassle. Use as a discount leverage not for a big trade in value per se. Power Harrow will still have some value. Nordsten drill, well, they are very long in the tooth with small hopper. Sort of thing people use on game strips here. Put it on eBay. Andrew guest won’t want it.

Feel the rotors for knock, any oil leaks. It’s done a significant amount of work on a big tractor.
£2k the complete unit. Drills obsoletes. Power Harrow might have a bit of life in it yet. Nice size.

Power Harrow maybe £4K,doubt the drill would find a new home.A Guest complete outfit would be my choice, nearly like a new unit at half the cost.

Why has the land got easier to work? Because you aren’t over working it? Looks to be doing a super job.
