depends if @unlacedgecko expects a nice big ring fence farm dumped in his lap at a cheap rent or if he is up for taking opportunity where he finds it
sheep eat grass and there is grass to be had for the right price just have to find it then find the sheep at the right price to eat it

I won’t look at anything less than 300 acres. It must be fully stock fenced and water. Budget is £40/acre. Do you know of anything?

I always think the few hours spent in market when we are selling stock are some of the most profitable few hours we spend in the year, always go to market to see the stock sold, if folk want to call it pricking around that's up to them

I'm not talking about when you go to buy and sell stock. I fatten cattle so I do a fair bit of that myself Im talking about the lads that go just because the sale is on, and they go every week and dont buy or sell anything. And fair enough its a social outlet for them but its not a great use of time either?

@livestock 1 Fair play. Hard work does pay off eventually. I'm putting money from the day job into the farm but thats because its my retirement pot. I'm kind of in the same boat as @unlacedgecko . I hope to expand and hopefully in the next 10-15 years, Ill quit the job and go farming full time. That plan is very subject to change though. it wont happen finishing cattle anyway

Time well spent. I can spend it better having a day at home. There’s a job around every corner here so standing at the mart isn’t for me. Been called brave or stupid nevertheless waiting isnt great and it’s harder than a days work
We are lucky . Only 7 mikes to Hereford market. I can easily drop stock off then go back home and do a few hrs work before selling. However I do spend a vast amount of time in Market as I'm always buying cattle as that's part of my farming life. Also lucky that have got a couple of friends who will buy for me if I'm not there if they see something that is worth the money and will fit into my system and I would give them £5 a head . I must admit though I'm buying more and more on the 'Sell my livestock' website.

The changes I have seen in regulation have taken the shine off the sheep job over the years. Unfortunately when I explain these I meet resistance nevertheless they are there and are to deal with and pay for.
The last of our sheep went yesterday ! Intending to go solely cattle now......that is the plan . We gave 680 tack sheep running our grass and turnips. .....trouble is if I see a nice run of couples in Hfd market worth the money ..........

When I’m buying sheep or cattle I try to get a fair few at a time but obviously this doesn’t always happen. Sometimes I don’t get anything. It’s when I’m selling I seem to be there less now I don’t have any evidence to think it makes any difference either

Agreed ....favours in the buying ring are a thing of the past. Most buyers buy what they see in the ring and not by who is stood in the box !

Takes a long time to produce them, the selling and buying is one of the more important bits, if i have put my money into producing something and my time least i can do is stay at the mart and make sure they are marketed properly, no quick knocks etc.
I always used to stay not now though maybe if there’s something out of the ordinary or a big wagon load but apart from that no. I haven’t made anything much out of anything I have passed out in the past
