Couldn’t get fuel this morning to get to work and have enough to get back, 11 garages on a round trip between top end of Telford and market Drayton and battlefield, Absolute horse sh!t. Went home in the end can’t justify tainting my vehicle for a few days with red.

I do wonder what the real cause is? A friend told me a couple of weeks ago that a fuel shortage would materialise in the coming weeks, but I just dismissed it at the time.

Its not driver shortage as there were plenty of ADR drivers last week, the week before that and last month.

Could there genuinely be a shortage? The ruskies have been screwing the tap on Europe’s gas supply for a few months now, could the same be said for fuel?

Either way, it’s abundantly clear that the countries that hold the oil reserves are the ones that hold the real power in the world.

Disagree.

There were only just enough before, based on a steady demand and supply profile. There hasn’t been “plenty” of anything useful in this country for a very long time.

The media reported a slight BP(?) shortage, as is their right, and that was the straw that broke the camel.

Just filled up at local Morrisons, had to queue for around 10 minutes to get to pump, whilst waiting saw a girl put £7.15 in her tank :banghead: next car was an old codger who spent 10 minutes repeatedly rocking his car in order to get the last half a litre in :banghead::banghead:
As i took £95 worth think its safe to say I wasn't going much further without filling up.
Personally I think this idea from the oil companies of restricting people to £30 worth is the wrong approach it just encourages the idiots to fill up daily. Instead make it £30 or even £40 minimum purchase, that would stop the idiots immediately.

Just over 1 litre at the price of diesel at Chester services. Said to have a pipe straight from Stanlow which is spitting distance yet only one lane out of 6 open on the forecourt, HGV pumps shut.
Decided I would sooner run out than pay that price and managed to do 30 miles with fuel light on and still get home

Last time I ran out 100 yards from the garage, I put the landy in low box and wound her up the side of the main road on the starter, desperate times.
I once ran out on the A9 near Inverness , wound it to the top of the hill free wheel for five miles wound to top of another hill free wheeled into garage along side pump ! Mind you that was in the days pumps actually had fuel 😂

A guy called David who worked for Weltec selling AD plants took me on a tour of the midlands looking at plants in his old Volvo and every slight downhill he knocked it into neutral and I mean literally hills we were slowing down on he was still in neutral 🤣

When I was a lot younger , I had a Triumph "Gloria" car . That had a free-wheel lever on the propshaft tunnel . I used at every suitable time to conserve fuel (money) I think that would now be illegal - perhaps it was then .

As someone who delivers this stuff for a living I have found it quite interesting listening to all the different opinions on what’s caused this and why.
Firstly there is no fuel shortage or supply issue, there are, however, a shortage of people willing to work for certain companies though. It’s the demand that has gone through the roof that’s causing the issues due to some dubious reporting of management saying things that would cause panic, and frankly, they should of known better.
What is also often forgotten by these companies is that they are often the cause of why they can’t get the staff that they need due to the way they treat their employees.
You reap what you sow, and all that.
