Any one else panicking

I filled up with Derv on Tuesday as normal, no queues or indeed hint of a problem. Yesterday and today all local stations empty.
Did all the HGV drivers leave on Wednesday?

What should happen is that fuel sales of sub 15L into cars during these panics be charged at £5/L, maybe discourage all the Karens sending hubby down to top up.

same with bogroll, first multipack normal price, filled the trolley? Each subsequent 24 pack is £40 each.

I haven’t thought this all the way through as I think the excess paid should go somewhere worthwhile, not to retail or government….. or rpsb……er…….RNLI!

Thats that sorted, ratchet up the cost of panic buying to discourage it, and send any proceeds to the RNLI. 👍
RNLI do not deserve a penny after the way they are now helping thousands of iligeal imingrants into the country!

@milkloss - It might have been that people that were doing a really good job in a bad place and were underpaid got a better job, somewhere that appreciated them and paid right. When COVID was over they decided not to go back.

Some jobs seem to have suffered in the reboot that COVID caused, people found better things to do to earn their wages. I'm guessing it isn't benefits - but I am not sure what it is.
I think a lot have had a rethink and have realised that living in a tin can four nights a week is no fun. So they have jacked in and bought a caravan/camper van and gone touring.

Sadly no. All these major charities are now employing CEO’s on mega £ salaries “to boost their presence in the market place”

Mrs Bob used to be big supporter of a couple of these charities but won’t have anything to do with them now
Well in that case I’d better take any excess revenue from my brilliant idea and put it towards a spanking new 2nd hand tractor.
Everyone wins 👍

Be interesting if ever some of the facts do come out

1. ADR fuel drivers. Have they been poached as a first by other lorry operators ?

2. I’ve heard there’s been some driver kick back at Hoyer but not sure what happened

3. Why is the media not reporting the DVLA taking industrial action / go slows over examiners doing 8 tests a day up from 7 and the medical records team’s massive back log

4. When will Grant Schapps announce the first French style Aire de Parking complete with shower blocks for truckers etc ?

My view from what I've heard from a few sources, is there is no driver shortage as such at Hoyer and other tanker firms. But there was selective reporting and filling or not of certain stations all aimed at trying to push the Govt into a corner to let in cheap labour again. Big food industry players have been trying for weeks and failed so they upped it a step and its sort of worked.

The problem is there isn't a magic amount of drivers abroad sitting on their backsides waiting for this. Europe also has a driver shortage and decent rates and facilities, plus a lot closer to home for most of them. Add to this, if it was a shortage of tanker drivers, that isn't something that can be changed overnight. ADR takes a week to complete and then you need the PDP ticket which is only given by the tanker firms themselves.

Hoyer have lost a few drivers as, basically, they pay crap rates and the jump in other sectors means they can earn as much pulling a plain trailer as they hauling a bomb, so not exactly enticing to so anymore plus less stressful.

The firms shouting the loudest over the shortage are the ones who built their business on cheap labour allowing them to quote for contracts on a cheap rate, and compete in a race to the bottom.

Media saying tonight that 90% of petrol stations now have no fuel.

The gov are saying there is no problem and we are not going to do anything.....

What a mess!

Around here only the motorway stations and the odd garage here and there have fuel, most stations are now shut as they are not getting the delivery's due and empty!

What happens next week when all the lorry's that buy fuel at the petrol station have to park up?
All be full fuel stations by Wednesday and no one will want any, hardly a problem let alone a crisis just a little blip , but it’s a warning ⚠️ that won’t be heeded !! This country hangs by a thread on all this last minute nonsense .

Seems more than a little strange that this shortage of lorry drivers as well as other types of employment is not just restricted to the UK but Europe wide, all these workers have not just suddenly disappeared off the face of the earth, could it have anything to do with some people taking longer to get over this virus & unable to go back to work causing shortages?

May have been mentioned already.
The HGV driver [fuel delivery] shortage has been an issue for long time, it did not start last week, it was never a problem and life carried on until someone brought it to the attention of the meejah!

Point 4:
Quite right, BUT it’s not an issue in France as there is plenty of land.
Where in UK can land alongside motorways and trunk roads easily be found at reasonable cost.

NHS worker I read somewhere didn't have enough fuel to make the 70 mile round trip to work and the shift was going to be short staffed.

They only have to go one way to get to work! They then have x hours to find fuel.
pee poor excuse IMHO
